Trump: Don’t Dismiss International Health Experts During Deadly Pandemic

Target: Donald Trump, President of the United States

Goal: Protect lives and prevent the withdrawal of the U.S. from the World Health Organization

The Trump administration has declared that the United States will withdraw from the World Health Organization (WHO). This could have disastrous consequences, isolating the American medical community at a time when global unity is needed to fight the COVID-19 pandemic.

The U.S. was formerly the largest contributor to the WHO, but recently funding that goes to medical experts and public health professionals who make decisions about global health has been cut. The guidelines and information provided by them has been instrumental in fighting the COVID-19 pandemic. Withdrawing means that the U.S. will be excluded from the international development of a COVID-19 vaccine and its distribution. It will have to rely on its own resources and will not participate in the global effort to combat the virus.

President Trump has regularly been at odds with the WHO. He’s criticized the organization for its missteps at the start of the pandemic, while he has floundered and allowed the virus to explode in the U.S. He has frequently disregarded the risks of COVID-19, holding large rallies and making not wearing a mask a political statement. He continues to mislead the public about the virus and has jeopardized the health and economy. Withdrawing from the WHO will ensure that the pandemic thrives in the U.S., as the nation will be isolated from global disease research.

Half a million people have died from COVID-19. If the U.S. remains part of the WHO, many lives might be spared. Sign the petition to demand that the U.S. not withdraw from the World Health Organization.

Dear President Trump,

Withdrawing the United States from the World Health Organization (WHO) will only worsen the COVID-19 pandemic. The WHO has been instrumental in fighting the global COVID-19 pandemic and the U.S. has benefitted from its efforts. As the pandemic continues, the U.S. should be involved in the development of  a vaccine. Withdrawing from the WHO will slow this process and prolong the suffering caused by the pandemic.

During a time like this it is more important than ever that the U.S. stand with the rest of the world to fight disease. COVID-19 has resulted in the deaths of half a million people, and many more will die if the U.S. withdraws from the WHO. I demand that you protect the health of the world and continue to work with this vital organization.
