Return Mount Rushmore to the Lakota

Target: Nancy Pelosi, Speaker of the House

Goal: Return ownership of Mount Rushmore to the Lakota Nation once and for all.

The time has come to return Mount Rushmore and the Black Hills region to the Lakota Nation once and for all. They are already owed the land by treaty that the United States government continues to ignore, and it is time to uphold the treaty and make it law in this country.

Native people in the United States have routinely been lied to and cheated by our government, and it is time to make good on our promises and restore the dignity of Natives in the eyes of the law. This starts with Mount Rushmore. Sign our petition and demand that the Lakota get their land back.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Speaker Pelosi,

The Native people of this country have been trampled over far too many times in our history, and they continue to be treated by our government as an after thought. Every Native tribe that has has a treaty with us has had their rights ignored when it suits the United States. This needs to end.

First and foremost, Mount Rushmore needs to be formally returned to the Lakota Nation. It is theirs by right, by treaty, and needs to be theirs by law. Stop allowing the United States government to walk all over the indigenous people of our country.

Sincerely,

[ Your Name Here ]

  1. Trump’s 3 July speech at Mt. Rushmore was stunning in its cruelty and hypocrisy. There, he went on a long harangue, complaining about the putative obliteration of “our” history in response to the long-overdue removal of statues glorifying the racist traitors of the defeated confederacy, and he finished with an environmentally destructive, dangerous and wasteful fireworks display. Trump’s speech, dripping with white supremacist conspiracy theories, was cruelly made in front of a geological formation which is sacred to and was stolen from the Lakota and then permanently defaced by a sculptor with ties to white supremacist groups. The carvings, which date only from the 1930’s, portray presidents who were responsible for extreme violence and genocidal actions against Native people. It is time for Mount Rushmore and Georgia’s Stone Mountain to be returned to their rightful owners and to their natural glory; the carvings should not be maintained but allowed to erode naturally. It is high time that Americans of European heritage address our nation’s shameful history of brutal genocide and mistreatment of the continent’s original peoples and the lands stolen from them, and that meaningful reparations are made.

  2. THE malignant narcissist SCIOPATH toddler trump, RESIDENT of the oval office and bunker specialist, lackS any ability to care about any human. When asked what party he was going to pick to run as…non party affiliate said….” oh, I’M GOING TO RUN AS A REPUBLICAN BECAUSE THOSE PEOPLE ARE SO STUPID THEY BELIEVE ANYTHING YOU TELL THEM BECAUSE THEY ARE THAT STUPID. “”” I GUESS THEY REALLY, REALLY ARE, BECAUSE HIS FIRST DEBATE HE KNEW NOTHING AND UNABLE TO TALK ABOUT ANYTHING BUT PENIS SIZES. AND , YET, NOT ONE PERSON HAS CALLED HIM ON HIS MENTAL ILLNESS AND MENTAL INSTABILITIES. SO , ANYTIME HE GIVES A SPEECH, JUST EXPECT LOGIC SIMILAR TO A TALKING HORSES ASS.

  3. The hate of the left is simply incredible. His speech at Rushmore was a great one unless you hate America…which the left currently does.

  4. Jose Espino says:

I’m always on the side of justice but I think is a little bit too late for that, how are the Lakotas going to pay for the sculptures? I must also say that American freedom is glorious. America being the only nation in the world where many of it’s citizens hate everything about it but they never leave it. Talk about hypocrisy?
