Grant Miami Nation Native American Tribe Government Protection and Sovereignty

Target: Todd Young, U.S. Senator from Indiana

Goal: Federally recognize the tribal status of the Miami Nation of Indiana.

The Miami Nation, like many Native American tribes, were forced off of their land by the United States government and made to resettle far to the west in the 1800s. Some clans of the Miami Nation were allowed to remain in their native land of Indiana, but as of today, only the Miami Nation that relocated to Oklahoma has federal recognition of their tribal status.

The Miami Nation of Indiana has been actively petitioning for federal recognition of their tribe for more than a century to no avail. Without recognition, they are not allowed the same rights as other tribes, and are thus at a severe disadvantage in maintaining their autonomy as a nation.

The only way that this will ever change for the Miami Nation of Indiana is if enough people let the government know that this discrimination is unacceptable. Sign our petition and demand that Senator Todd Young makes doing right by the Miami Nation of Indiana a priority.

Dear Senator Young,

Like so many Native Americans, the Miami Nation were brutally driven off of their land and forced to resettle. By way of a treaty, some of the Miami Nation were allowed to stay behind in Indiana, but they now struggle to receive acknowledgment of their tribal status due to past treaties being ignored or disregarded. This puts undue hardship on the tribe and makes it difficult for the Miami Nation of Indiana to remain autonomous.

Native Americans in this country have been victims of government-sanctioned cruelty for years. This should have been addressed long ago. Push to defend the rights of the Miami Nation of Indiana and ensure that they get the federal recognition that they deserve.
