Justice for Seven-Year-Old Boy Sprayed With Mace

Target: Carmen Best, Chief of the Seattle Police Department

Goal: Fire the police officer responsible for spraying mace in a seven-year-old boy’s face at an anti-racism protest.

A seven-year-old boy was sprayed with mace directly in the face at a recent anti-racism protest in Seattle. A video was released on social media of the child screaming in pain. The parents of the boy, along with other protesters, claimed that neither the police nor the Emergency Medical Services workers stepped in to help.

The father of the boy, Mando Avery, said that he and three generations of his African-American family members had just finished praying when, out of nowhere, police fired mace at the group, hitting the boy directly in the face. A fellow protester, Evan Hrera, caught it all on camera. Since the incident, Hrera was arrested and jailed for two days for causes unknown, though many believe it was police retribution for the video.

There has yet to be any action taken against the officer who fired mace at the child. Sign below to demand this officer be terminated immediately.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Chief Best,

Yet again, peaceful protesters demonstrating against police brutality and racial injustice are met with more violence. A harmless seven-year-old boy in Seattle was sprayed in the face with mace, a dangerous chemical weapon. Officers must be held accountable for their harmful actions.

It is inhumane to mace anyone peacefully protesting, let alone a child. This boy deserves justice. I demand that you immediately terminate the officer involved.

Sincerely,
