Old, Fragile Cat Stuck in Illegal Leghold Trap for Days Deserves Justice

Target: Brendan Kissane QC, Chief Crown Prosecutor of Victoria, Australia

Goal: Find and punish the unknown person setting illegal traps to catch animals.

A 12-year-old cat named Abby spent days caught in an illegal leghold trap. Whoever is responsible for setting this device out needs to be found and brought to justice so that more animals will not be maimed or killed.

Abby was found with a broken limb and a mutilated paw. The damage was so bad that a veterinarian had to amputate the cat’s leg in order to save her. According to authorities, leghold traps are illegal to use because of the amount of pain they inflict on animals. Whoever set this trap could be fined up to $82,610 and spend up to two years in prison. Demand everything possible be done to find and arrest the person responsible for setting these barbaric devices out and that the person be immediately prosecuted to better ensure more animals will not be hurt or killed.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Chief Crown Prosecutor Kissane QC,

An old and feeble cat was found severely injured inside an illegal leghold trap. It is important that the person responsible for putting out these traps is found, arrested, and swiftly prosecuted so that other animals will not have to suffer the same fate.

The trap completely destroyed the paw of this cat, named Abby. Her leg was also damaged beyond the point of return, and had to be amputated. These traps are considered to be extremely inhumane, since animals have been known to experience unspeakable amounts of pain after getting stuck inside them. Setting out such a device is punishable by up to two years in prison and an $82,610 fine.

Animals and even children are currently in danger of getting either hurt or killed if there are more of these traps hidden in the area. We therefore demand you take all the necessary steps to find the person who is setting these insidious traps and that the individual be charged with animal cruelty and quickly prosecuted.

Sincerely,

These traps should be outlawed once and for all. They are a slow death for
any poor animal that becomes ensnared.
