Protect Japan’s LGBTQ Community from Discrimination

Target: Shinzo Abe, Prime Minister, Japan

Goal: Protect the LGBTQ community from discrimination in housing, healthcare, education, employment, and more.

Discrimination against Japan’s LGBTQ community remains legal in housing, employment, education, and more. As the nation gears up to host the Olympic games in 2021, sign the petition to demand that discrimination against the LGBTQ community be outlawed in the country.

Tokyo has passed anti-discrimination legislation in the wake of the Olympic games; however, discrimination remains legal in the city’s many surrounding suburbs. This discrimination goes directly against the Olympic Charter. Since 2015, the nation’s prime minister has vowed to “stamp out discrimination,” but no action has been taken. Discrimination remains rampant in nearly every facet of life for the LGBTQ community.

Now that legislation has been introduced to ban discrimination, it is time for the prime minister to act on his promise. Sign the petition to demand that the prime minister support Japan’s new anti-discrimination legislation.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Prime Minister Abe,

Five years ago, you vowed to “stamp out discrimination.” Despite this, discrimination against the LGBTQ community remains common in healthcare, employment, education, and housing. As your nation prepares to host the 2021 Olympics, this discrimination goes against everything it has vowed to uphold in the Olympic Charter.

Now, legislation has been introduced to protect the LGBTQ community from discrimination based on sexual orientation or gender identity. I demand you hold true to your past promises and support this legislation.

Sincerely,

[Your Name Here]
