Stop Diverting Coronavirus Relief Funds to Help Wealthy Private Schools

Target: Betsy DeVos, US Secretary of Education

Goal: Stop taking coronavirus relief funds away from students in poverty to help wealthy private schools.

Betsy DeVos is pushing to reallocate coronavirus relief funds intended to serve the neediest schools and students in order to funnel more money towards private education. DeVos has a history of favoring wealthy private schools over public institutions, and she is now inserting her own personal agenda into what should be a straightforward, nonpartisan relief effort.

The CARES Act has assigned emergency funds for education that are intended to be primarily given to schools based on need. Instead, DeVos is directing school districts to give small, wealthy private schools the same funding as large, struggling public schools. Sign below to demand that DeVos stop serving her own agenda and make sure that funding is distributed proportionally to the schools that need it most.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Secretary DeVos,

Thousands of schools are struggling in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, and many of them will face a long, slow struggle in returning to normal. Without proper funding, some of them may not return at all. Instead of supporting these schools and the students and families they serve, however, you are pushing to divert funds intended for needy schools to fund wealthy private institutions.

A school with 50 students and a substantial endowment to fall back on should not receive the same financial support as a public school with 500 students. I demand that you allocate relief funds fairly and proportionally to help the schools and students who have suffered the greatest impact from the COVID-19 outbreak.

Sincerely,

This stupid rich witch has never cared about public education. She only cares about the wealthy private schools. Stop funneling money to them, help the public schools that need it!
