Demand Resignation of Senator at Heart of Coronavirus Corruption

Target: Richard Burr, senior United States Senator, North Carolina

Goal: Demand resignation for corrupt insider stock trading with knowledge of COVID-19’s impact.

Senator Richard Burr of North Carolina, already under criticism and investigation for using government knowledge gained about the severity of coronavirus to sell off stocks and encourage insider trading, has now been linked to similar corruption on the part of his brother-in-law, Gerald Fauth. Fauth sold tens of thousands of dollars’ worth of stock with the unethical advice of his relative but Burr himself may have profited as much as $1.72 million off of insider trading. Burr claims that his actions were misrepresented in the media and maintains his innocence.

It was recently revealed that Burr spoke at a paid-admission dinner for wealthy North Carolinian political patrons and business people in which he warned them to offload assets just before the stock market crashed. The senator had gained knowledge of how badly the pandemic would strain the economy and health systems of the United States, offering warnings to his wealthy donors while lying to his constituents about the country’s ability to cope with an unprecedented health crisis.

Senator Burr’s use of government information to gain profits for himself, his family, and those who line his pockets is a grotesque example of corruption at the highest levels of power. Sign below and demand that Burr step down immediately before further disgracing his office.

Dear Senator Burr,

Your long career in the Senate has enabled legislation that has restricted abortion rights, encouraged war and violence, and overburdened working people in your state and throughout the country. Your criminal actions in selling off assets to preserve your own wealth are only worsened by selling that information to those who can afford it, rather than those who need it most.

By enriching wealthy donors and your family members, you have demonstrated how little you care for the common good of all Americans. I demand that you resign immediately and apologize for your corrupt and unethical actions.
