Investigate Violent Prison Riots That Led to 46 Deaths

Target: Tarek William Saab, Prosecutor General, Venezuela

Goal: Investigate violent riots that led to the deaths of 46 prison inmates.

A riot broke out in a Venezuelan prison, leading to 46 deaths and 75 injuries. Human rights organizations are demanding that this violence be investigated to ensure that it never happens again.

Prison officials say that the riot at Los Llanos penitentiary started as an escape attempt. However, human rights groups say a policy that forbids families from giving food to inmates led to the violence. Poor conditions and severe overcrowding only exacerbated the violent outcome. Over 2,500 inmates are behind bars at the penitentiary, which was built for only 750.

Human rights officials are “gravely” concerned and worry that more violence may occur if conditions aren’t improved. Sign the petition to ask that the government investigate this recent riot to determine what exactly caused the violence and remediate any human rights violations.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Prosecutor General Saab,

A riot at Los Llanos penitentiary killed 46 inmates and injured over 70 more. Overcrowding, poor conditions, and human rights violations exacerbated the violence. The sheer bloodshed has human rights officials “gravely” concerned.

Your government’s responsibility is to protect all citizens, even those behind bars. I ask that you investigate this violence and remediate any human rights violations.

Sincerely,

[Your Name Here]
