Protect Newly Discovered Orchid from Extinction

Target: Hon. S. M. Chandrasena, Minister of Environment & Wildlife Resources, Sri Lanka

Goal: Protect newly discovered orchid in Sri Lanka from extinction.

A new orchid has been discovered in the rainforests of Sri Lanka; however, the rare species is already threatened with extinction. Sign the petition to ask that preventative actions be taken to help protect it from extinction.

Gastrodia gunatillekeorum, as the flower is called, is a member of the orchid family. However, it relies on fungus for nutrition. Researchers have also found that the species is location specific. These attributes make the flower very fragile and rare. Sri Lanka is already battling climate change, deforestation, poaching, and urbanization. One change in the flower’s habitat could mean the destruction of their nutrition source and their future.

This orchid is one of two orchid species in Sri Lanka. Sign the petition to demand that preventive measures be taken to help protect the species from extinction.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Minister Chandrasena,

A rare orchid has recently been discovered in the rainforests of Sri Lanka, making it only one of two orchid species in the nation. However, the species is already facing extinction spurred on by deforestation, climate change, poaching, and urbanization.

Gastrodia gunatillekeorum relies on fungus for nutrition. Any imbalance in the environment can rob it of its food source. I ask that you take preventative measures to help protect this new floral species to stop it from being lost before it can even be truly enjoyed.

Sincerely,

[Your Name Here]

It looks like this one is up to the forest people to kill anything that disturbs this rare orchid. Soon there will be many trying to profit from it.

Is there no more respect for God and the planet?
May He punish all as He sees fit!
