Don’t Deny Employees’ Rights to a Safe Workplace

Target: Nancy Pelosi, Speaker of the House

Goal: Don’t prevent employees from suing employers who knowingly expose them to COVID-19.

The right to a safe workplace is under threat in the next stimulus package. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell wants the next bill to include a provision that prevents employees from suing their employers if they were knowingly exposed to COVID-19.

This is an infringement on the right of every working person to a safe workplace. If an employer is not taking the necessary precautions, including enforcing social distancing and providing all employees with masks and a clean environment, they should be held liable for their inability to protect their employees. Sign our petition to demand that Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi not allow any bill to pass that would violate workers’ rights, health, and safety.

Dear Speaker Pelosi,

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell wants to stop employees from being able to sue their employers if they are not adequately protected from COVID-19. This is an absurd infringement on the rights of workers to a safe workplace.

It is not unreasonable to expect that businesses that stay open during this very dangerous time provide the necessary protection to keep their employees from being infected. This includes masks, cleaning supplies, and enforced social distancing. If an employer can’t provide this, they shouldn’t be open, and they should absolutely be criminally liable for failing to protect their employees.

Don’t let McConnell take away every worker’s right to be safe at work.
