Joe Biden: Dismiss Campaign Staff Member Accused of Sexual Assault

Target: Joe Biden, Former Vice President, United States

Goal: Demand resignation of senator appointed to key campaign position despite allegations of corruption and sexual assault.

The Joe Biden presidential campaign has appointed Senator Chris Dodd to head his committee in the search for a vice presidential candidate. Dodd is notorious for his role in the alleged sexual assault of a waitress, Carla Gaviglio, with his mentor, Senator Ted Kennedy. In 1985, Kennedy and Dodd were dining at a Washington, D.C. restaurant when Kennedy reportedly picked up Gaviglio, threw her on a table, then placed her on Dodd’s lap before grinding his genitals against her. After ending his time in Washington, Dodd went to work as a Hollywood lobbyist, where he spent years defending and ignoring the behavior of Harvey Weinstein, who is now infamous as a serial rapist and abuser.

Biden has received significant negative coverage recently over worrying allegations of sexual assault and rape. As part of his attempts to distract from this negative attention, he’s committed to appointing a female vice presidential candidate as well as protecting women’s rights. Appointing a known sexual assaulter to a key position renders these actions meaningless. Sign the petition below to demand that Biden fire Dodd, an enabler of abusive and repugnant behavior.

Dear Mr. Biden,

The appointment of Senator Chris Dodd, whose association with Harvey Weinstein and past alleged sexual assault are well-known, is an insult to women and voters in general. While your campaign struggles to cope with sexual assault allegations against you, the way to secure the trust of women and voters is not to hire staff whose respect for women’s rights is known to be weak at best.

I demand that you dismiss Senator Dodd from your campaign and appoint a more appropriate choice in his place. Failing to do so will send a message that your campaign is unconcerned with taking women seriously.
