Federally Fund the USPS So Normal Operations Are Not Suspended

Target: Donald Trump, President of the United States

Goal: Federally fund the United States Postal Service during pandemics.

Imagine a world without the ability to have life-saving medications mailed to your home, or a world in which mail-in voting ceases to exist. Such a world may be a reality sooner than we think. The United States Postal Service (USPS) operates independently from the federal government and could cease normal operations as early as June as a result of financial trouble during the coronavirus. The volume of mail being sent has decreased by nearly a third and the USPS projects a $13 billion shortfall this year. Keep in mind that the USPS is necessary for voting by mail, delivery of medications and other necessary goods, and is closely tied with the smooth functioning of online retailers, namely Amazon. An advocate for the USPS said, “Every community in America relies on the Postal Service to delver vital goods and services, including life-saving medications. The Postal Service needs America’s help, and we must answer this call.”

Lawmakers are being asked to pass relief packages for the USPS to the tune of $89 billion in cash infusions so that the Postal Service can make it through this difficult time while continuing normal functions. However, President Trump has shown opposition to funding the USPS. The Washington Post recently reported that President Trump threatened to veto the $2 trillion coronavirus aid package known as the CARES Act if it provided any funding to help the USPS.

Sign this petition to urge President Trump to federally fund the USPS during pandemics.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear President Trump,

The United States Postal Service is built into the fabric of American communities. It’s not only a means of communication, but these days it also serves as a necessary service to deliver packages from online retailers, like Amazon, medications through services like Express Scripts, and to securely allow citizens to vote by mail. Especially during the quarantine and social distancing as a result of the coronavirus, more people are shopping online than ever. The USPS has become even more integral to the way our societies and our economy work.

Because the USPS is independent of the federal government, they are not currently receiving funding. However, the USPS is struggling and have announced that their normal functions could cease as early as June of this year. I urge you to support the USPS and federally fund the Postal Service.

Sincerely,

They provide an important service and need to be helped so they can continue to operate.

  2. USPS does a great job. I have no complaints about their service.I have even had package delivery on Sunday. Not everyone has a smart phone, a computer or internet service in the USA. Some people live in remote or rural areas and can count on the USPS for service! The POTUS thinks his way is always the best way! I appreciate the service and support them!
