Target: Mayor Corey Booker
Goal: Praise Mayor Corey Booker for rescuing dogs from freezing cold.
Newark’s Mayor Corey Booker went out of his way to personally rescue dogs left in the freezing cold. The entire Northeast region has been suffering under freezing cold temperatures for the past week. The dogs were seen outside shivering by an eyewitness reporter who tweeted at the mayor. Booker immediately drove out with a police escort and carried the dogs into his heated car until their owner could be located. The two dogs were seen by WBAC reporter Toni Yates who noticed them shivering outside while she was reporting on a story. She checked back later and found that the dogs were still there and the owner had not taken them inside. The temperature in Newark was 12 degrees Farenheight that night. Concerned about the dogs, she tweeted at Mayor Booker at 4:56 pm saying, “#pets cold Yay! Newark for its heat help. Make pet owners get their dogs out of the cold. Saw 2 dogs freezing @eyewitnessabc7@CoryBooker.” Mayor Booker arrived at 7:56 with a police team. He carried the dogs to his the police car and warmed them up while trying to locate the owner. One of the dogs named Cha Cha had recently given birth to a litter. Booker said, “This is brutal weather, this dog is shaking really bad and you just can’t leave your dogs out here on a day like this and go away and expect them to be okay.”
One of the owners was in Queens for the day and said he didn’t know how Cha Cha got outside. The owner of the other dog also took the dog in. Both dogs are reported to be doing fine. Sign the petition to praise Booker for rescuing the dogs.
Dear Mayor Booker,
I am writing as an animal lover to applaud you for your rescue of two dogs in Newark. In a time when the most common news stories are about animal cruelty it is refreshing to see a mayor who is concerned about animals. Your example of carrying the two dogs out of the cold is praiseworthy. It is important for us as a society to remember that while the cold weather is hard on humans it is equally hard on animals.
Thank you for doing your part in reminding people of that.
