Protect Privacy of Video Chat Users Who Were Falsely Promised Data Security

Target: Eric Yuan, CEO of Zoom

Goal: Provide total end-to-end encryption to protect the privacy and security of Zoom users who increasingly depend on video chat during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Government bodies, health officials, and schoolchildren are just a few of the groups whose security may have been put at risk by the popular video chat app Zoom during the COVID-19 pandemic. While thousands of people turn to Zoom to stay connected and conduct business while social distancing, the company may be leaving its users vulnerable to hacking and harassment.

After falsely claiming that their service was end-to-end encrypted — meaning all information transmitted between Zoom users was encrypted throughout every stage of tranmission — the company has since admitted that this claim was false.

Without end-to-end encryption, third-parties may be able to access Zoom users’ data as it is being transferred from one user to another. Given that business, school, and government affairs are now frequently conducted over Zoom, this extra measure of security is of the utmost importance. Sign below to demand that Zoom provide real end-to-end encryption for its users.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Mr. Yuan,

Your company falsely claimed to provide end-to-end encryption for users, providing an inaccurate assurance of privacy that may have caused users to unknowingly risk their own security. While you have since rescinded the claim and taken some measures to improve the security of your system, it is crucial that you provide actual end-to-end encryption to protect the privacy of your users.

Since the COVID-19 pandemic, your service has exploded in popularity and is now a vital tool for thousands of individuals, businesses, schools, and even medical and government entities. I urge you to protect the security of the users who depend on you, as well as the liability and image of your own company, and provide total end-to-end encryption for all users.

Sincerely,
