Don’t Build Environmentally Destructive Plastics Plant

Target: Andrew Wheeler, Environmental Protection Agency

Goal: Stop opening of fracking-dependent plastics plant in Ohio.

The construction of a factory which would encourage fracking and cause harm to the environment through the plastics that would be produced there has stalled due to the coronavirus pandemic. This has granted Belmont County, Ohio, a reprieve in which to reflect on whether or not they want a sustainable future. The plant would use ethane, a by-product of fracking, to make ethylene and polyethylene, key components of much of the plastic that currently choke our oceans and clog our landfills.

Whether or not this plant will ever be built is now in serious doubt, encouraging local activists and proponents of green technology. But it’s up to responsible figures in industry and government to finally end the threat that it would pose to the region and the world.

Sign the petition below to demand the U.S. government step in to end the establishment of this dangerous factory.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Mr. Wheeler,

The Belmont County, Ohio ethane plant would be a major step backward in the safe and sustainable development of Appalachia, as well as an irresponsible insult to efforts to fight the effects of climate change and encourage safer and less wasteful consumption habits.

I urge you to intervene and ensure that this plant is never built, guaranteeing that the people of Ohio are protected from the harmful effects of this project.

Sincerely,
