Ban Cancer-Causing Chemicals Found in Ski Wax

Target: Andrew R. Wheeler, Administrator of the United States Environmental Protection Agency

Goal: Protect humans from devastating illnesses and even death by banning premium ski waxes that contain toxic chemicals.

Cancer-causing chemicals have been found in premium ski wax, the substance that skiers use to prevent stick and increase speed. These chemicals, known as perfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), are a known carcinogen linked to many illnesses and disturbance of soil food webs, animal health, and watersheds.

A November 2019 study published in the American Chemical Society’s Environmental Science and Technology Journal tested soil, earthworms, and small rodents, called bank voles, living in a ski area in Norway. They found that voles within the area had as much as six times the amount of PFAS in their livers compared to voles elsewhere. Earthworms showed similarly elevated levels. These substances generally accumulate higher up the food chain and are easily passed on to predators. In addition, a 2011 study found that technicians waxing skis for World Cup Nordic athletes had PFOA levels in their blood up to 45 times higher than the general population. The EPA has confirmed that PFOA and PFAS, the two types of chemical substances found in the study, are linked to reproductive and developmental problems, liver and kidney issues, and cancer.

While most waxes do not contain PFAS, the premium waxes used by higher level skiers do, and they are used at very high rates. In addition to disrupting alpine food webs and harming human and animal health, these chemicals leak into the watershed and take a very long time to break down in the environment. Sign below to demand the EPA ban ski wax containing PFAS in order to protect the environment and human health.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Mr. Wheeler,

We are all aware of the harmful effects of PFAS, found in teflon, firefighting foam, and many other substances. They have been linked, time and time again, to cancer and other harmful illnesses.

Ski wax containing PFAS contaminates the alpine food web, the watershed, and the bodies of humans and animals. It is essential that we do not make the same mistakes of the past by allowing PFAS to accumulate long enough for serious health consequences.

I demand that you ban ski wax containing PFAS in order to protect the health of humans and the environment.

Sincerely,

[Your Name Here]

Official having knowledge of harmful chemicals used in any consumer product should be fired immediately!
To me this would indicate that they have stocks in these chemicals and or in pharmaceuticals.
Voters be aware for whom you vote. Check behind the curtains as much as you can.
