Thank Vermont Governor for Pledging $5 Million to Clean Energy Fund

Target: Vermont Governor Peter Shumlin

Goal: Thank Governor Shumlin for his recent pledge to allocate $5 million to Vermont’s Clean Energy Fund

Vermont Governor Peter Shumlin has announced his proposal to allocate $5 million of funding to the state’s sustainable energy initiative, the Clean Energy Development Fund (CEDF). Established in 2005, the CEDF is a state-run program that operates with the goal of financing solar, wind, geothermal, and other renewable energy initiatives across Vermont. Today, the investments made by the CEDF have turned Vermont into one of the most energy-efficient states in the country, with more green jobs per capita than any other.

In a state with a strong reputation for progressive environmental policies, Governor Shumlin has nonetheless distinguished himself as a leader who’s serious about setting effective clean energy policies. The governor has been a vocal critic of potentially harmful nuclear power in his state, and in May 2012 became the first governor in history to pass a state ban on the devastating practice of gas fracking. Since Shumlin’s election in 2010, Vermont has doubled the percentage of solar power on its energy grid.

With the proposed allocation to the Clean Energy Development Fund in 2013, Governor Shumlin has set a leadership standard that will encourage even more alternative energy groups to follow suit. According to the energy association Renewable Energy Vermont, every dollar of investment produced by the Clean Energy Development Fund results in four dollars of additional clean energy funding from other independent organizations.

Thanks to Governor Shumlin, Vermont is quickly becoming one of the national leaders in the hunt for sustainable, environmentally safe energy practices. Sign this petition to thank the Governor for his outstanding clean energy efforts.

I like portable solar on roofs and yards, wooden wind turbines, no or less high power-lines.
Thank you for the work in solar — some steps in a good direction!
