Ban Fracking in New Mexico

Target: Peter Wirth, Senate Majority Leader, New Mexico State Senate

Goal: Protect New Mexico from the dangers of hydraulic fracturing.

Fracking has destroyed hundreds of thousands of acres of land, has polluted miles of freshwater streams, has eliminated the habitats of endangered species, and has destroyed the quality of life for millions. Sign the petition to demand that this dangerous and deadly practice be banned in New Mexico.

New Mexico is one of the United States’s top oil-producing states. However, after natural disasters and health concerns in other states, legislators are demanding a four-year ban on the practice, which would take the state through 2024. Senate Bill 104 will study the impact fracking has on the state’s citizens, their homes, and their health.

Legislation would not ban energy production currently in progress, but would ban new permits, giving the government and science a chance to catch up and protect countless citizens. Sign the petition to support this bill.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear State Senator Wirth,

Fracking has proven to be dangerous and even deadly across the United States. Water has been polluted, animals have lost their habitats, and some humans have even lose their homes. The state of New Mexico would like to take some time to study the effects of this practice before commencing with new permits.

I ask that you support Senate Bill 104, which will halt new fracking permits in the state until 2024. By suspending fracking, science and the government will have the chance to catch up with its effects and put the health and safety of citizens first.

Sincerely,

[Your Name Here]
