Punish Pastor Accused of Stealing Charity Funds to Buy Luxury Car

Target: Kwame Raoul, Illinois Attorney General

Goal: Punish pastor accused of using food drive funds to buy himself a luxury car.

Chicago pastor Clarence Smith Jr. of New Life Impact Church was arrested for allegedly misappropriating nearly one million dollars in funds donated to a charity to feed hungry children, instead spending the money on a luxury car. Smith denies any allegations of fraud, but a resident of North Lawndale reports that he’d seen Smith toting around various luxury goods most pastors typically do not own.

This is completely unacceptable. Misappropriation of charity funds is one of the most despicable acts imaginable, especially when the money is meant to lessen a serious problem such as child hunger. Millions of children across the United States are denied the food they sorely need, their families unable to afford even the most basic of nutritious meals and staples. Smith’s alleged theft of the funds meant to feed these children shows an immense disregard for human life.

Dear Attorney General Raoul,

Reverend Clarence Smith Jr. of New Life Impact Church was arrested for charity fraud, allegedly using nearly one million dollars donated to a food drive to buy a luxury car and other expensive goods. He currently denies any allegations, even though a churchgoer claims he’d seen Smith with goods most pastors do not own, citing it as a “red flag” that something was not right.

This appears to be a severe misappropriation of funds. Worse, these funds were meant to feed hungry children, and child hunger is one of the biggest problems currently facing the United States. Smith allegedly took food from the mouths of these children in order to satisfy his own desires, and he must not get away with it. You must see that he is punished to the full extent of the law for his alleged crime if he is found guilty.
