Cancel Construction of Toxic Coal Plant

Target: Mr. Keriako Tobiko, Cabinet Secretary for the Ministry of Environment and Forestry of Kenya

Goal: Permanently cancel Kenya’s suspended first coal plant.

The construction of Kenya’s first coal plant has been suspended for 30 days to allow for an assessment of its potential environmental and cultural impact. The plans had been in limbo ever since judges revoked the construction company’s license to build, while environmental groups have been heavily protesting the plant’s construction since day one.

Suspension is a good start, but we must see that plans for this coal plant are cancelled entirely. Coal is one of the most dangerous fossil fuels still in existence; the fumes pollute the air and lead to severe respiratory issues in the people who breathe them in. The plant would be constructed on a coastal town, negatively impacting the water supply and the oceanic wildlife and seabirds.

We cannot let a coal plant destroy Kenya’s coastline and harm the population. Sign this petition to ensure that plans for this plant are permanently cancelled and never introduced again.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Secretary Tobiko,

Construction of the first power plant to be built in Keyna has been suspended, shortly after the construction company’s license was revoked. Environmental groups have been protesting the plant’s construction since day one, citing the dangers coal poses to the environment and the population despite U.S. Ambassador Kyle McCarter’s insistence that it is “the cleanest, least costly option.”

You must ensure that the plant is cancelled permanently. Its proposed location along a coastline would do serious harm to the air, the ocean, the wildlife, and the people living in the city. Coal fumes can cause severe respiratory issues in humans, particularly children and the elderly, while residue from the plant can run off into the water supply. Do not allow this plant to be constructed.

Sincerely,

[Your Name Here]

Africa has a lot of sun….why not install solar power!
Think progressive! Coal is dead! Visit Germany, they closed all coal mines! Work with leaders, not dated minds!
