Commend California Energy Company for Work on New Solar Project

Target: Governor of California, Jerry Brown

Goal: Commend the California energy company First Solar, Inc. for its work on the new Campo Verde Solar Project.

First Solar, Inc., recently began construction on its new 139MW Campo Verde Solar Project situated near the city of El Centro in Imperial County, California. When completed in 2013, the plant will provide enough emissions-free electricity to power approximately 50,000 homes in the state of California. Commend this organization for its commitment to providing clean energy to its customers and keeping the environment clean.

The project will be constructed using First Solar’s advanced thin film photovoltaic panels to produce the total 139MW of clean energy generation. During the construction phase, the site will create around 250 local jobs, as well as adding $230 million in economic activity to the area. The clean power generated at this facility will displace approximately 80,000 metric tons of carbon dioxide annually, the equivalent of taking 15,000 cars off the road.

The Imperial County Board President, Ray Castillo, commented on the project: “The County of Imperial is very pleased to see the commencement of construction of the Campo Verde Solar Project, which brings numerous benefits to the Valley and our citizens. First Solar’s project brings much needed jobs and economic development to the Valley at a time when it is sorely needed. The project also pays added tax revenue, funds for agricultural benefits and community benefits while helping the County diversify its economy. We’ve been working to attract projects like this for the past five or six years and are glad to see it’s finally happening. These projects are really our legacy for the Imperial Valley.”

The work of First Solar in California will create jobs, stimulate and diversify the local economy and provide tens of thousands of citizens with clean emissions-free power. Environmentally conscious, sustainable action such as this deserves credit. Sign this petition to urge California Governor Jerry Brown to commend First Solar for its Campo Verde Solar Project, providing sustainable energy and keeping our natural resources safe.

Dear Governor Brown,

The energy company First Solar has recently begun construction on the new Campo Verde Solar Project, based in El Centro of Imperial County. When completed in 2013, the site will provide 139MW of clean emissions free power, enough to supply 50,000 typical California homes. This facility will create around 250 jobs during the construction phase and inject the local economy with $230 million of activity. Approximately 80,000 metric tons of carbon dioxide emissions will be avoided per year, the equivalent of taking 15,000 cars off the highways.

The efforts of First Solar will be highly beneficial to California’s environment and economy. This company’s continued commitment to providing sustainable options should not go unnoticed. I urge you to commend First Solar, Inc. for its work on the Campo Verde Solar Project, providing renewable energy and keeping our natural environment safe.
