Commend Group for Assisting Community After Hurricane Sandy

Target: YANA: You Are Never Alone

Goal: Applaud YANA for working to help millions of New Yorkers after Hurricane Sandy.

YANA (which stands for You Are Never Alone) is a worker training center located in Queens, New York. The group opened its doors just one week before Hurricane Sandy struck, intending to bring jobs and education with an emphasis on environmentally sustainable practices to the area. After the devastation caused by Hurricane Sandy, YANA became a relief site and community hub, providing free medical treatment, hot meals, and legal counseling to the neighborhood. Applaud YANA for stepping up and providing assistance to the millions of New Yorkers left with nothing after Hurricane Sandy.

Hurricane Sandy left millions of Americans without power, heat or means of communication with the outside world. Thankfully, the neighborhood of Rockaway Park in Queens, New York had assistance from YANA. With solar power provided by Greenpeace and support from Occupy Sandy volunteers, YANA reopened its doors and became a center where members of the community could gather for support and help getting back on their feet. The neighborhood is now more connected than ever. Residents left with nothing were able to find a safe place in YANA. The hurricane also caused extensive damage to YANA, whose members are now in the process of rebuilding and restoring; they are currently installing new energy-efficient copper flooring. Even with the damage to their office, YANA was still able to help the community when it needed it most. Sign this petition and applaud YANA for generously providing the neighborhood with support and care after Hurricane Sandy.

Dear YANA,

I would like to express my gratitude to YANA for providing relief to Queens, New York after Hurricane Sandy. Millions of Americans were left without power, heat, and communication to the outside world. YANA opened its doors and provided assistance to the community when it needed it the most.

Even though YANA suffered extensive damage as well, it still provided care and support to New Yorkers left with nothing. Offering residents a safe place to go for health care, free meals, and legal counseling was generous and greatly appreciated by the community. Thank you for stepping up and providing the neighborhood with assistance during a time when it needed it most.
