Support Bipartisan Immigration Reform

Target: Evangelical Immigration Table Leaders

Goal: Support the Evangelical Immigration Table’s mission for bipartisan immigration reform.

The Evangelical Immigration Table is a diverse mix of evangelical groups coming together as a grassroots organization to advance immigration legislation and provide a path to citizenship. Please sign this petition and support the Evangelical Immigration Table and their bipartisan effort to respect the dignity of people and provide a path to permanent residency for immigrants.

The Evangelical Immigration Table includes the Southern Baptist Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission, the National Association of Evangelicals, Sojourners and Focus on the Family, among other evangelical groups. Members began meeting two years ago, but are hoping 2013 is the time to push meaningful immigration reform through Congress. In an open letter to Congress and the White House, the group presses to respect “the God-given dignity of every person” and establish a “path toward legal status and/or citizenship for those who qualify and wish to become permanent residents.”

As part of the grassroots movement, the Evangelical Immigration Table has initiated the “I was a Stranger” challenge. The goal is to get churches and individuals to coordinate themselves in focusing on scripture as it relates to immigration issues and connecting with legislators to speak about how their faith informs their views of the immigration debate. The group reaches more than 850,000 Facebook and Twitter users, in addition to 100,000 churches across the United States.

Please sign this petition — no matter your religious affiliation — to show  your support for bipartisan efforts to facilitate change in immigration reform.

Dear Evangelical Immigration Table Leaders,

Your bipartisan approach to gaining momentum for immigration reform is a great example of advocacy, grassroots efforts and inclusive tools to raise awareness and encourage action. Despite the obvious religious foundation for the Evangelical Immigration Table, leaders and contributors are diverse, and the common goal is what motivates action. Thank you for setting a great example for bipartisan, grassroots efforts in a time where corruption, greed and special interests have left Congress at a stand still.

The Evangelical Immigration Table’s goals to respect the dignity of every person and establish a path toward legal status for those who qualify and wish to become permanent residents are fair and provide direction and hope for creating legislation. This coalition stands to garner a lot of power with the number of evangelicals increasing and citizens looking for legislative movement in immigration. I hope the group is able to handle the responsibility accordingly and stick to the goals outlined as the movement continues to grow and gain support.

Thank you for putting pressure on Congress to address immigration reform in a bipartisan, grassroots campaign that all citizens — regardless of religious association — can support.

Now is the time to act. Immigration reform can’t and shouldn’t wait any longer.
