Put Homicidal Canadian Cardiologist Behind Bars

Target: Justice System of Canada

Goal: Put cardiologist who now walks free after stabbing his two children to death in prison

Canadian cardiologist Guy Turcotte, who admitted to murdering his own two children in 2009, has been released after just 46 months of confinement. Turcotte ingested windshield fluid in a suicide attempt, then stabbed his 5-year-old son 20 times and his 3-year-old daughter 19 times. He claims to only have flashes of memory during the event due to the windshield fluid–which has been compared to drinking between one and two bottles of wine– and mental stress. His attorneys, who were paid for by the defense, convinced the jury of the same. Now, after just 46 months of psychiatric care, he has been fully released. Turcotte’s ex-wife Isabelle Gaston lives in fear that the man who has already taken away her children will come back for her. Even though windshield fluid may have had an impairing effect on his brain, he still chose to ingest it. It was no excuse for murdering his children while they were in their beds. Demand that Canada re-open the case of Guy Turcotte and put him behind bars where he belongs.

Gaston, also a doctor, told CNN that she could not accept his depression or lack of memory as an excuse. “We have a person that is a cardiologist that never had a psychiatric incident, not at all. I have trouble to understand how someone in five hours or six hours will do an interview of someone and have a conclusion that he is not a danger to society or is mentally insane,” Gaston said.

One doesn’t just live an entire life without displaying any sign of mental illness, then randomly black out and murder one’s children. Being “drunk” is no excuse. Turcotte has gotten away with murder. The psychiatrists that testified had incentive to push the jury to believe that Turcotte was not responsible for his actions. He spent less than four years under psychological care and no time behind bars. Others who have committed much lesser crimes are stuck in prison for years while a man who viciously took the life of his own children just walks. Tell Canada to re-open the case of Guy Turcotte to ensure he doesn’t get to walk free due to claims that he can’t remember.

Dear Justice System of Canada,

Guy Turcotte stabbed each of his children almost 20 times while they were in their beds. He may have been in a mental state of distress, but that does mean he is not responsible for these actions. He claims to have flashes of memories from the murder. Even if the windshield fluid caused impairment, he chose to drink it while his children were in the house.

After less than four years at a psychiatric hospital, Turcotte has been fully released. People who have committed far less severe crimes are wasting away in prison while someone who murdered his own kids walks freely. The psychiatrists that testified on Turcotte’s behalf were biased as they were paid for by his defense. We demand that you re-open this case and don’t allow a murderer to get away with a slap on the wrist.

Too bad his suicide attempt didn’t take before he slaughtered his children.
