Seize Tigers From Reportedly Cruel Circus Handlers

Target: Aleksandr Konovalov, Russia Minister of Justice

Goal: Seize reportedly mistreated tigers from circus after a horrifying incident during a performance.

A tiger act in a Russian circus ended badly when one of the tigers suddenly collapsed with convulsions. Handler Arthur Bagdasarov reportedly pulled the poor creature away by her tail while his sister Karina beat the others back with a stick. Presumably, this was meant to protect the convulsing animal from being attacked, but the audience was horrified, calling the duo “sadists.” The pair’s defense of their alleged actions hinted strongly that similar incidents have happened in the past.

This is yet another example of the inhumane and unethical treatment of wild animals by circuses. Animals are forced to perform dangerous stunts for the amusement of humans, overworked during training sessions, and kept in uncomfortable surroundings. The convulsions suffered by Zena, the unfortunate tiger, could have proven fatal; the handlers should have known in advance if her health was too poor for her to go on stage. Worse, their way of dealing with the situation could have hurt Zena even further, as well as the other tigers.

These animals do not belong in a dangerous circus where they risk their well-being and health to entertain humans. The siblings did not handle the situation properly, and the implication that this is not the first time makes it even more horrifying. Sign this petition to have the tigers removed from the siblings’ possession and taken to a proper animal sanctuary.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Minister Konovalov,

Circus animal handlers Artur and Karina Bagdasarov have come under fire for their handling of a situation in which one of their tigers collapsed during a performance. Artur reportedly pulled Zena the tiger back by her tail while Karina beat the others back with a stick, fearing a cat fight. The duo’s defense of their alleged actions hinted that this has happened before, making the matter much worse.

These tigers do not belong in a circus, where they are reportedly overworked and mistreated on a daily basis. Circuses are infamous for their poor treatment of the animals used in their shows, and this is just another example of why animal acts should be removed from them as a whole. You must ensure that the tigers are removed from the duo’s custody and taken to an animal sanctuary as soon as possible.

Sincerely,

  3. CIRCUSES ARE, AND ALWAYS WERE, TOTAL EXPLOITATION OF ANIMALS WHO HAVE HAD THEIR NATURAL LIVES STOLEN FROM THEM FOR PROFIT AND GREED. THIS IS NOT ‘ENTERTAINMENT’. . . IT IS FLAT OUT GREED, AND PAIN FOR PROFIT.
