Stop Letting American Weapons Fall into IS Hands

Target: Mike Pompeo, US Secretary of State

Goal: Forbid US groups from sending armaments to Saudi Arabia.

The Saudi Arabian government may be transferring weapons they receive from the US to al-Qaeda and IS linked militant groups. An international investigation led by the Arab Reporters for Investigative Journalism (ARIJ) claims American weapons have been found in Yemen in the hands of Saudi-supported militants. These weapons include rocket launchers and state-of-the-art armoured vehicles, the transfer of which is in direct violation of the trade agreements the United States has with the Saudi and UAE trading coalition.

Yemen is currently locked in a disastrous civil war involving large-scale human rights violations on all sides. A UN report has claimed that Saudi-backed forces have been targeting Yemeni citizens since at least 2016. While the Saudi coalition is not supposed to use US arms for civilian slaughter, the ARIJ points out that the Saudi coalition is also allowing their weapons to get into the hands of unauthorized users like IS, al-Qaeda, and smaller factional groups. As long as Saudi Arabia is intentionally misusing the armaments they receive from the US and allowing them to fall into hostile hands, this trade agreement must end.

Please sign this petition to demand that the US stop sending weapons to Saudi Arabia.

Dear Secretary Pompeo,

According to the Arab Reporters for Investigative Journalism (ARIJ), Saudi Arabia can no longer be trusted with American weapons. Rocket launchers, rifles, and high tech armored vehicles manufactured in the United States have been found in the hands of IS and al-Qaeda forces fighting in the Yemen Civil War. If Saudi Arabia is intentionally transferring these weapons to anyone, it is in strict opposition to the trade agreement between the US and the Saudi coalition.

Since 2016, Saudi Arabia has already been under scrutiny for allegedly using US weapons to target Yemeni citizens, but if Saudi Arabia is openly colluding with our enemies, then the current trade agreement cannot stand. ARIJ claims that arms traded to Saudi Arabia and the UAE end up being used by any number of sides in Yemen’s civil war. IS, Al-Qaeda, and smaller factions that have nothing to do with the Saudi coalition have been found with American- made arms. It is irresponsible for the United States to share high tech weaponry with a nation that openly allows them to be misused and fall into dangerous hands. I demand that you end the trade agreement that allows Saudi Arabia to acquire American weapons.
