Stop Experiments That Mutilate and Murder Dogs

Target: Jerry Moran, Chairman of the U.S. Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Military Construction, Veterans Affairs, and Related Agencies

Goal: Don’t allow the continued torture and death of dogs for medical research.

A government agency is once again torturing and killing innocent animals in the name of research. This time, the Department of Veterans Affairs is exploiting the plight of paralyzed veterans in a fear-fueled attempt to justify maiming and murdering countless dogs. If these cruel acts do not end, more canines will face unimaginable, pain-filled executions.

Once taking place under the cover of secrecy, experiments conducted within at least three VA labs across the country now face intensive public scrutiny. Various cruel procedures are carried out on lab dogs while they are still alive. These atrocities include cutting out portions of the dogs’ brains (portions that enable them to breathe) and severing their spinal cords. In a particularly heartless act, researchers also facilitate heart problems in dogs and then force the sick animals to ‘exercise’ on a treadmill. All of these barbaric rituals end in the dogs being euthanized and killed.

In response to concerns, the VA only promised more oversight and a determination to expand this butchery to other facilities. Advocates have fought long and hard against these inhumane experiments they claim will not even ultimately help the disabled. They have called for an immediate defunding and halting of the gruesome procedures.

Sign this petition to demand Congress immediately end this torture funded by taxpayers.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Senator Moran,

Lobotomies, severed spinal cords, induced heart attacks: these savage actions inflicted upon another living being would and should be considered undebatable torture. Yet the agency tasked with protecting those individuals who shield Americans from such atrocities is now committing these barbaric acts in the light of day…and with congressional approval.

The Department of Veterans Affairs has been engaged in a months-long fight to justify its torture and euthanizing of untold numbers of vulnerable dogs. The department claims these ‘experiments’ will somehow aid paralyzed veterans, yet it is hard to see how forcing an animal with a researcher-induced heart condition to run on a treadmill before killing it or chopping out the part of an animal’s brain necessary for basic breathing will somehow make the disabled walk again. Animal experimentation has long been under fire as an outdated and inaccurate model for medical research.

A critical issue is being used to manipulate public sentiment and cover up detestable actions beneath a veneer of public service. Under scrutiny, the department has only promised to multiply these inhumane and heinous acts within its facilities around the nation. You have the power—and the obligation—to stop these blatant abuses.

Defund and demand an end to this taxpayer-funded torture today.

Sincerely,

[Your Name Here]

  1. The people who perform such torture must surely be haunted, ultimately, and suffer nervous breakdowns reliving the hell their victims endured. No-one could possibly be unaffected by witnessing such torture, such pain unless they are basically sadists. What a sick, sick society that has people in “high” places that condone this.

  2. There is absolutely nothing on this planet that justifies any form of animal torture or cruelty!
The evil monsters that claim to be human, should be stripped of their human rights and made to endure the exact same torture the innocent animals had to endure!

  3. Stop this insidious torture NOW!!!
There is no need for this experimentation in the 21st century!!
    This is BULLSHIT!!!
Why don’t one of the researchers volunteer for the experiments??? Carve one of them up!!!

  4. Please elect more Democrats to public office. Trump and his Republican Party have no empathy for animals or for the environment.

    • Trump couldn’t give a shit about animals, so in turn, I couldn’t give a shit about Trump. He needs to start showing compassion towards animals. I totally agree with his stance on illegal migrants/economic
refugees entering his country, but his abysmal and barbaric pro-hunting attitude is extremely disturbing.

  5. Let’s STOP the unconscionable cruelty — using animals for research is not only unethical, but scientifically unjustifiable — we have valid alternatives in research from computer modeling & epidemiological studies to cell & tissue cultures, which are available & replace the use of animals completely & permanently — in addition, there exist human-based methods such as medical simulation, which is documented to provide equivalent or superior training compared to the use of animals – Making the switch to SIMULATION is the right thing to do – ALSO, pay a visit to PCRM.org.

  6. JERRY MORAN THE WORLD IS WATCHING YOU.
YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR ALLOWING THESE?INNOCENT ANIMALS TO BE TORTURED.
YOU ARE A DISGRACE. YOU ARE SHAMEFUL.
    YOU MAKE US SICK.
TIME TO CALL THE NEWS STATIONS AND LET THE WORLD KNOW WHAT YOU ARE ALLOWING.
    SHAME ON YOU.
    WE WILL NOT BACK DOWN
