Target: Cuban Health Minister Roberto Morales
Goal: Commend decision to remove travel restrictions for Cuban doctors
Recently, Cuban doctors learned that restrictions on their travel would be removed. Previously, these doctors had faced more legal obstructions to leave the country than other citizens. This new freedom given to the doctors allows them to be treated as the rest of the country instead of punished for their chosen profession. This move is a step forward for freedoms for all Cuban citizens and should be publicly commended.
Previously, Cuban doctors faced troublesome bureaucratic proceedings to be granted permission to travel overseas. There was a fear in the government that the doctors would leave the country permanently, leaving Cuba without adequate medical care. However, a government study proved this idea false. Without the government’s worries, doctors in Cuba will be allowed to act as any other citizen when traveling. This gives the doctors equal freedoms to the rest of the country.
This is a major step forward for Cuban citizens to have equal freedoms. While the rest of the country has been allowed to travel freely for months, doctors needed to wait for this announcement to be allowed the same freedom. According to Health Minister Roberto Morales, “A doctor will be treated like any other citizen starting now.” A person should not be punished for their chosen profession.
By removing these restrictions, the Cuban government has removed the punishment for doctors. Demonstrate support for this movement by signing the petition letter below.
Dear Minister Morales:
Recently, it was announced that Cuban doctors would no longer be restricted on traveling overseas. Previously, doctors faced more legal obstructions than other citizens in attempting to leave the country. The intent behind this was to prevent the doctors from leaving behind a country without adequate medical care. However, this idea has been proven false in a government study. Doctors are no longer punished for their choice of profession.
I thank you for allowing Cuban doctors this freedom. Their chosen profession should not mean they are given less freedom than other citizens. Giving doctors this freedom is a step forward for freedoms for all Cuban citizens. Thank you for allowing this to happen.
