Ban Cosmetic Animal Testing in Canada

Target: Justin Trudeau, Prime Minister of Canada

Goal: Put an end to the cruel practice of cosmetic testing on animals.

Canada could become the next country to join a growing list of nations, including Norway and Israel, in banning the unnecessary and cruel practice of cosmetic testing on animals. A bill has successfully passed the Canadian Senate that would effectively end cosmetic testing on animals and the sale of any products that have been tested on animals, and must now pass a final hurdle in the House of Commons before it can become law.

The proposed law has come on the heels of an intensive, nationwide campaign to generate public awareness about the cruelty that is involved in cosmetic testing on animals, including the fact that animals are often force-fed chemicals or injected with a host of harmful substances. Cruelty-free companies like Lush and The Body Shop have also joined the fight alongside the Canadian public, who have successfully swayed the government’s opinion thus far.

With so many alternative means of testing, and a wide array of known safe chemicals to use, cruelty-free cosmetics are truly the way of the future. Sign this petition to urge the prime minister of Canada to support this bill and spare countless innocent animals a life of suffering and torture.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Prime Minister Trudeau,

Canada is in the final stages of passing a new law that will put an end to cosmetic testing and the sale of cosmetic products tested on animals nationwide. The majority of Canadians support this compassionate act and are eager to join the ranks of other countries like Norway, Israel and India in banning this form of sanctioned animal abuse.

If this bill becomes law, it will be a huge step forward for animal welfare in Canada and worldwide, as it will force domestic cosmetic companies to use cruelty-free methods of testing and put pressure on international companies to do the same. I hope you will support the passage of this bill, and that you will do what you can to make sure that this barbaric practice becomes a thing of the past.

Sincerely,
