Protect Journalists from Vicious Attacks

Target: Maj. General Salah Abdallah Mohamed

Goal: End attacks on newspapers and journalists.

Press freedoms are once again under attack, this time in Sudan. Security forces stormed newsrooms and confiscated newspapers in a viscous attack on freedom of the press. Three different newspapers were confiscated by the Sudanese National Intelligence and Security Service.

In addition to the confiscated newspapers, some journalists were interrogated for covering “sensitive issues” in regards to the country’s president. Journalists should not have to live in fear, toeing lines and hiding the truth from their readers, when it is the truth their readers turn to them for.

These attacks on the press must end. Sign the petition to demand the government of Sudan order security forces to end their control over newsrooms nationwide.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Major General Mohamed,

Security forces in your nation recently stormed newsrooms, confiscating papers, and interrogating journalists, all to instill fear. This is a blatant attack on the free press.

Journalists should not fear punishment for doing their jobs, for spreading awareness. They should not be afraid to hide the facts from their readers. I demand you act now to bring the attacks on journalists by your security forces to an end.

Sincerely,

[Your Name Here]
