Justice for Dolphins That Died While in Captivity at Dolphinaris

Target: CEO Mauricio Martinez del Alva CEO of Ventura Entertainment

Goal: Send six remaining dolphins at Dolphinaris are sent to a sanctuary.

Many dolphins die while held in captivity by theme parks and amusement centers. This was the case at Dolphinaris in Arizona. Despite only opening in 2016, two of the eight dolphins that inhabit Dolphinaris have already died. Recently a 10-year-old Bottlenose dolphin named Alia has died.

Reportedly, Alia has moved to several different locations in her short life. She was born at SeaWorld Orlando in 2007, then moved to Discovery Cove, and then Six Flags Discovery Kingdom in California, before ending up at Dolphinaris. Being only 10-years-old, she spent a lot of her time traveling between facilities. Alia didn’t deserve to die at such a young age. Dolphins do not belong in captivity. Demand that Dolphinaris release the other six dolphins to a sanctuary.

Dear Mr. Martinez del Alva,

Dolphins aren’t meant to live their lives in a small tank interacting with humans all day long. Dolphins are intelligent creatures that should be allowed to live their lives freely. Two out of eight dolphins have died in the past eight months at Dolphinaris in Arizona. The most recent death was a 10-year-old Bottlenose dolphin named Alia. She was born in captivity and transferred between many different facilities during her short life. Captivity is all that she knew, and the other dolphins at Dolphinaris do not deserve the same fate.

Many activists urged the facility not to open due to the location in the desert. Dolphins are highly susceptible to respiratory infections due to their compromised immune systems from being in captivity. These beautiful creatures deserve to live their lives outside of captivity, instead of being used for human entertainment. We demand that the six remaining dolphins are released and sent to a sanctuary.
