Prosecute Trump for Violating Constitution

Target: Karl Racine, D.C. Attorney General

Goal: Prosecute Trump for allegedly accepting payments from foreign governments through his hotel chain.

A lawsuit was recently filed against Trump for alleged constitutional violations. According to the Foreign and Domestic Emoluments Clause, presidents are prohibited from accepting ¨gifts¨ and ¨payments¨ from state and foreign governments. This is where Trump’s mogul status becomes problematic based on how much his company earns from hosting international dignitaries. Lawmakers believe the president unfairly profits from running his business in downtown Washington, which ultimately monopolizes the local hospitality industry.

The first process of the lawsuit involved verifying that the states had legal ¨standing¨ to press charges. That’s to say, a judge had to successfully verify that Maryland and DC-based hotels actually suffered damages from Trump’s business undertakings. Coming to this conclusion wasn’t easy since there aren’t any precedents on this matter. As new legal ground is made, support the plaintiffs in pursuing this landmark case. Keep Trump bound to the constitution by signing the petition.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Mr. Racine,

Thanks to you, Maryland and DC are pursuing legal action against Trump for allegedly undermining the Foreign and Domestic Emoluments Clause of the U.S. Constitution. As you know, Trump International Hotel has practically become an extension of the White House. Nowadays, his company directly caters to conservative figures that not only harms local competition, but also endorses his dangerous political platform. Americans are seriously concerned by this unfair advantage. How much is Trump profiting by luring in right-wing state and foreign politicians to his hotels?

Another major complaint is the legitimacy of his ¨blind trust.¨ In reality, Trump’s holdings are being administered by his children for the duration of his presidency. We must ask ourselves how disconnected he is from the enterprise seeing that his offspring are part of his administration. Morally, this seems like a severe conflict of interest and grounds for impeachment. Considering that Trump also stands accused of violating the Second Amendment after blocking Twitter users — let’s hope that his departure is finally on the horizon. Please help end his impunity.

Sincerely,
