Tell Congress Not To Ruin Americans With Disabilities Act

Target: Senator Ted Poe of Texas

Goal: Demand Senator Poe rescind the damaging ADA Reform bill.

A senator in Texas is attempting to reform the Americans with Disabilities Act in a way that makes access to legal assistance by disabled Americans far more difficult. The Americans with Disabilities Act is a landmark law signed in the 1990s to secure civil rights for all people with disabilities in the United States, ensuring that businesses and residencies were accessible to disabled Americans. The way the law is set up, if a disabled American sees a business or location that is not accessible to their needs, they can file a report with the Department of Justice to sue on their behalf, or they may take legal action on their own.

Proposed reforms to the law would require anyone filing a complaint to do so through the business owner first, forcing them to wait 180 days for a response before being able to take legal action. Nobody should have to wait to exercise their civil rights. Sign the petition below to demand this outrageous revision never make it through Congress.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Senator Poe,

There is no reason to revise the Americans with Disabilities Act. Millions of Americans rely on that law for support and equality every day; these revisions would only serve to make their civil rights harder to protect. We need more protections for Americans with disabilities, not fewer.

Attempting to reform the ADA is an outrageous act that will not be condoned by the American people. Your signature as sponsor on that bill makes you the target of our anger. We demand you take the pivot needed and let the ADA stay untouched.

Sincerely,

[Your Name Here]
