Stop the Taxpayer-funded Torture of Mice, Kittens, and Other Innocent Animals

Target: Pat Roberts, Senate Agriculture Committee Chairman

Goal: End the government-sanctioned torture and execution  of lab animals.

Outrageous taxpayer-funded slaughtering has taken place for decades. Worse yet, these executions are performed yearly in the name of science by some of the nation’s top departments. Without intervention, these egregious acts of animal cruelty will continually be approved and renewed.

The latest outrage took place when the USDA was exposed by a congressman for allegedly poisoning and killing up to a hundred kittens every year. This is just one high-profile example, however. Certain animals currently used for laboratory experiments, such as rats and mice, receive no protections under America’s only federal law regarding animal welfare. Additional animals that might be exploited in laboratories, such as birds, also receive no shield from cruelty and abuse. Due to lacking federal oversight for laboratory animals in particular, atrocities such as the USDA experiments can continue unrestrained.

Sign this petition to provide greater protections for innocent animals vulnerable to inhumane, murderous experiments paid for with our tax dollars.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Chairman Roberts,

The Animal Welfare Act is designed to provide a common standard of humanity and protection in our country’s treatment of animals. Yet this decades-long shield against animal cruelty has denied its duty in a very fundamental way. Although the law originally had laboratory animals enshrined in its name, these animals remain among the most vulnerable to inhumane acts.

Just recently, we learned of countless kittens forced to spend their entire lives as poison-filled test subjects before being “disposed of” in the cruelest manner possible…all at the hands of the USDA, one of the agencies charged with enforcing this act. And for almost its entire inception, the Animal Welfare Act has excluded from protected status so many animals exploited in laboratories, including birds, reptiles, amphibians, and the rodents most commonly used for research purposes.

We refuse to fund mass murder. We do not implore or urge you to stop. We demand you put an immediate, final end to these horrendous practices in the name of science, in the name of these innocent animals, and in the name of common human decency. Make concrete protections for laboratory animals and stronger enforcement of punishments for abuses against these living beings a top priority. Amend the Animal Welfare Act today.

Sincerely,

  1. It has been proven time and again, that animal experiments are futile! An Avon rep asked me once – do you want us to use your children / babies. In my book I call such tactics Emotional Blackmail – does not fly at all.

Why, after 100 plus years and staggering volumes of knowledge that propelled us into the 21st century, scientists apparently do not know what is harmful to the human body! This is clearly a sham!

Check out: Physicians for Responsible Medicine (PCRM) for more info. PCRM is against animal experiments.

    • You are 10000% right! Yes PCRM has the answers and the medical industry knows these answers but as always $ counts much more than lives. Those so called experiments are cheap and if they are not accurate, who cares, the usda is alright with that! The usda is so corrupt! Those vivisectors need to be executed publically and most violently! They are vile and evil. They are beneath subhumans! They are beneath the worth of fleas. Yes I care about fleas more than them. At least fleas have a valid reason, i may not like it, but they have it so I usually kick them out of the house.
