Punish Man Accused Of Leaving Child In Hot Car

Target: Brian Frosh, Attorney General of Maryland

Goal: Punish man who allegedly left his toddler daughter alone in a hot car.

A Maryland police officer rescued a toddler who had apparently been left sitting in a hot car for hours. The girl was reportedly feared to be dead until she was discovered to be breathing; the officer immediately brought her into the shade and saw that she was taken care of. The girl’s father, who had allegedly been found lying unconscious in the grass, was then charged with reckless endangerment.

It is unknown as to why the father was allegedly collapsed on the grass, and his intent was likely not malicious. However, endangerment is endangerment regardless of intent. The temperature inside the car was 81 degrees, and the little girl could have died if not for the quick actions of the officer. Furthermore, it is illegal to leave a child alone in a hot car in the state of Maryland, even accidentally.

It is a miracle that the child is safe, but this does not make her father’s alleged actions any less illegal or dangerous. Sign this petition to ensure that he faces justice for such reckless behavior.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Attorney General Frosh,

A local toddler nearly suffocated to death after her father allegedly locked her in a hot car for hours. Police officer Darryl Wormuth managed to rescue her before it was too late, and the girl’s father was soon charged with reckless endangerment of a child. The man had reportedly been found collapsed on the grass near an apartment complex with the car keys hanging around his neck.

Whether or not the man meant to abandon this child, his alleged actions were still neglectful, in addition to being illegal. This child could have died had Officer Wormuth not intervened in time, and too many children have died or suffered damage in the past after being left in hot cars. Please ensure that this man faces justice for his reported neglect of his daughter.

Sincerely,

Disagree – suppose he was having a medical emergency and pulled over, got out of the (hot) car and collapsed? Wait and see before pushing something like prison that may harm the child further.
