Drop Lawsuit Against Environmental Activists

Target: Mark Erickson, Chairman & CEO of Extraction Oil and Gas

Goal: Respect freedom of speech and drop the lawsuit against environmental activists.

Five environmental activists are being sued by a natural gas giant simply for demonstrating their freedom of speech. Extraction Oil and Gas is suing a college student, a videographer, a legal observer, and others who were active in a protect against the company’s fracking in Colorado.

These men and women being sued were simply demonstrating their right to free speech. Extraction Oil and Gas is trying to silence opposition. No damage was caused by protesters, but the lawsuit forbids them from protesting in the future. This is an all-too-common tale of David versus Goliath.

This is not the first time oil and natural gas companies have used their power to intimidate protesters, but it should be the last. Sign the petition to demand that Extraction and Oil Gas drop its lawsuit against the protesters.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Mr. Erickson,

Your company is currently engaged in a lawsuit against five individuals, including a college student, a videographer, and legal observer, who were present at a recent protest against your company. These protesters were only demonstrating their First Amendment rights and have already received citations and are following required legal procedures.

Your actions against them are nothing but intimidation. Your company is using its power to silence its opposition by forbidding these activists from protesting your company in the future. I demand you drop this suit and honor the First Amendment of everyone, not just giant corporations.

Sincerely,

[Your Name Here]

  1. Robert Ortiz says:

It’s intimidation plain and simple and a very feeble and transparent attempt to suppress the truth and silence the voices of those that dare stand up to polluters and environmental destroyers and the damage they’re causing to our planet thanks to their selfish greed!

  2. FREEDOM OF SPEECH IS EVERY U.S. CITIZENS RIGHT AND IS ESSENTIAL TO OUR WAY OF LIFE EVEN WHEN IT’S INCONVENIENT FOR BIG COMPANIES. YOU AND YOUR COMPANY ENJOY ALL OF THE LIBERTIES OF THE UNITED STATES AND SUEING 5 INDIVIDUALS FOR EXERCISING THEIR U.S. RIGHT FOR FREEDOM OF SPEECH IS
UN-AMERICAN. MR. ERICKSON, GET OVER YOURSELF AND DROP THE LAWSUIT. THANK YOU.

  3. So corporations want to be recognized as citizens for their own purposes like making huge donations to politicians they think will grant them special favors but, citizens shouldn’t be able to exercise their constitutional rights? Can’t have it both ways you jerks, drop the lawsuit and be glad that the citizens of this country haven’t formed lynch mobs for groups like this – yet.

  4. These protesters are the only ones who have the balls to express their concern about protecting the environment. The government certainly isn’t doing anything. The government doesn’t care. God bless thw people who march and carry sign. They show they care.

  5. Lawsuits against protesters = fear of their potential power and influence.

Lawsuits = anti-democracy / anti- Free Speech – and is this not what our country stands for?
