Man Accused of Shooting Dog and Assaulting Him With Hammer Must be Punished

Target: Jerrod Mahurin, Prosecuting Attorney for St. Francois County, Missouri

Goal: Ensure maximum sentence for man accused of shooting dog and assaulting him with a hammer.

A man has been accused of shooting a dog named Trooper. Reportedly after the shooting, Jason Hampton then went on to hit the dog over the head with a hammer. Currently, Hampton is facing felony charges for this horrific act. He was charged with animal abuse in St. Francois County. Due to this alleged horrific act, Trooper was left paralyzed and reportedly spent weeks in a ditch before anyone came to his rescue.

In Farmington, Missouri, it is legal to shoot animals if they are destroying private property. According to Hampton, he was protecting his female dog from Trooper by shooting at the dog’s feet, and somehow missed and shot him in the neck. Hampton’s alleged act of hitting Trooper over the head with a hammer is what drove the St. Francois County prosecutors to file felony charges.

According to his doctors, Trooper has a five percent chance of walking again. Beyond walking, Trooper is going to have to have daily vet visits and intensive care for the rest of his life. He has suffered enough, and it’s not over yet. Trooper deserves justice.

Dear Mr. Mahurin,

Jason Hampton allegedly shot and left a yellow lab named Trooper to die in a ditch. Trooper was reportedly left in that ditch with serious injuries for weeks before receiving help. According to a source, Jason Hampton has allegedly confessed to the crime, but after being prosecuted he reportedly later recanted this, blaming Trooper for the incident. This reported crime is horrific, and Jason Hampton deserves to be punished to the fullest extent if responsible.

Trooper deserves justice for his horrible abuse. He was reportedly shot, hit with a hammer, and left for dead, and has a very slim chance of ever walking again. We demand that Trooper receive justice, and Jason Hampton receive the maximum sentence if found guilty.

  1. I’m sorry, but how can you attempt to be “shooting at the dog’s feet, and somehow missed and shot him in the neck”. If your aim is that off, you shouldn’t be allowed to have a gun. I’m sure you could have shooed Trooper away from your stupid dog in heat. Keep your dog penned up when in heat, or better yet, get her fixed!!! And after you missed and shot him in the head, why did you have to hit him with a hammer and leave him in the ditch? Because you are a stupid piece of shit. You need to go to jail for a long time. And I hope you don’t have kids.

  2. Crazy, gun toting Hillbilly . It was Trooper who needed protection from YOU.
    Your dog should be try.
