Punish Groomer Who Allegedly Gave Dog Fatal Case of Heat Stroke

Target: Dennis W. Ward, State Attorney for Monroe County, Florida

Goal: Demand that the groomer who allegedly groomed a dog in direct sunlight, leading to the dog getting heat stroke and dying, receive the maximum penalty by law.

A dog suffered and died after she allegedly came down with heat stroke during an outdoor grooming session. The groomer reportedly claimed that she did not have shade in her yard due to Hurricane Irma. Demand justice for this poor dog.

When Mercy’s owners picked her up from a grooming session at Cynthia Hodakowski’s home, they were heartbroken by her condition. The six-year-old Airedale Terrier reportedly did not have the strength to stand or walk on her own. Per veterinarians, Mercy was suffering from a severe case of heat stroke, allegedly due to being groomed outside while wearing a muzzle. Mercy’s kidneys failed due to the heat stroke, veterinarians stated, and she had to be euthanized to ease her suffering.

The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office charged Hodakowski with one count of animal cruelty. She was booked into the Monroe County Detention Center under a $25,000 bond. Sign below and demand that Hodakowski receive the maximum penalty by law, if convicted.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear State Attorney Ward,

A dog became fatally ill after she was allegedly groomed in direct sunlight while wearing a muzzle. The dog reportedly came down with heat stroke and had to be euthanized just days after the grooming session. We demand justice for this innocent dog.

Deputies with the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office charged Cynthia Hodakowski with one count of animal cruelty after she allegedly groomed a dog in direct sunlight, leading to the dog’s death. Mercy, a six-year-old Airedale Terrier, reportedly suffered from kidney failure due to a severe case of heat stroke. Per veterinarians, the heat stroke occurred when Mercy was forced to stand in direct sunlight while wearing a muzzle during a grooming session. Hodakowski is currently residing at the Monroe County Dentention Center under a $25,000 bond.

This cruelty must be punished. We demand that you seek the maximum penalty in this case.

Sincerely,
