Justice for Horse Reportedly Neglected to Death by Owner

Target: Pam Bondi, Attorney General of Florida

Goal: Prosecute deputy accused of criminal animal neglect and prohibit him from owning any more animals in the future.

Florida deputy John Rutherford has been charged with third-degree animal cruelty after a horse in his care was put down due to reported severe injuries. Reports state that the animal showed signs of horrific neglect: allegedly, a bleeding wound ran from his ear all the way down his body, the barn was barren with rusty nails sticking out in random places, and the field was barren and filled with waste.

No animal deserves such a tragic, horrific end. This horse had clearly been in agony for quite some time before he was finally put out of his misery; the wound was said to be infected, and the animal was reportedly dangerously underweight. Reports state that Rutherford allegedly has a history of neglect; miniature donkeys have allegedly died under the same conditions in his care, and ten cows just barely managed to escape the same fate. This man clearly is unfit to care for animals that need constant attention and clean surroundings.

Regardless of whether Rutherford intended to allow the horse to meet such an end, his alleged criminal neglect of the poor animal must not go unpunished. The Santa Rosa Sheriff’s Office is processing his termination, but that is only the first step. Sign this petition to demand Rutherford face justice, and to ensure he is prohibited from owning any more animals in the future.

Dear Attorney General Bondi,

A Santa Rosa deputy has been charged with animal cruelty following the euthanization of his horse, who was reportedly in dire condition when found by authorities. The animal was reportedly discovered starved and emaciated with an infected wound, living in squalid conditions; his condition was so severe there was no chance for recovery. The deputy in question allegedly has a history of improper animal care, with other animals either meeting the same fate or barely escaping it in his care.

You must ensure that this man faces justice for his alleged criminal neglect of this poor horse, as well as the past animals who have died in his care. Deputy John Rutherford may not have intended for the horse to meet such an end, but it was an end the horse did not deserve. Animals never deserve to suffer in agony for who knows how long before someone is forced to end their life. Please see that Rutherford faces the full consequences for this horse’s fate, if found guilty.

The only way I’d like to see Deputy John Rutherford be kept away from animals is to lock his sorry POS arse in prison.

  4. Serial animal abusers, such as Rutherford, who show a blatant disregard for other living creatures, often turn into serial killers. For the safety of society, LOCK HIM AWAY, PERMANENTLY.

A totally disgraceful ‘human beast’ who does not deserve to be alive! – lock him up for good!

  6. Jaime Perez says:

This disgusting POS deserves the same treatment. Starve his rotten ass to death! I’m glad he’s being fired.

  7. How can a person who has abused animals in the past still be able to get and abuse more!? When does it end?

  8. Agree all comments starve that bastard

  9. A deputy of all people?! He has no business having any animals in his care or dealing with the public as part of law enforcement.
What does that mean, they’re processing his resignation? How difficult is it to let him go? It should be as easy as saying, “Bye Felicia”! What a POS excuse for a human being. He’s more of an animal than the one he neglected. Hope karma gets him good.
