Pressure Trump Into Welcoming Central American Refugees

Target: Donald Trump, President of the United States

Goal: Assist Central American asylum seekers in reaching the United States.

Recently President Donald Trump met with Baltic leaders to praise their defenses against Russia. After applauding Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania for their security measures, he threatened to deploy the National Guard to protect the U.S.-Mexico border from so-called ¨dangerous¨ migrants. His goal: to prevent a caravan of over 1,100 Central Americans from reaching American soil before his alleged wall is constructed. Not only would this be a waste of military resources, but also a grave human rights violation.

Pueblos Sin Fronteras (People Without Borders) is responsible for coordinating the cross-country journey. The humanitarian organization supports Central Americans escaping political turmoil, particularly in countries like Honduras that has been ravaged by violence since the 2009 coup. According to them, most of the passengers are Hondurans escaping imminent danger from government forces and gangs. Recently the caravan reached Puebla, Mexico–700 miles from Brownsville, Texas. While the majority of the travelers will settle in Mexico City, approximately 200 intend to continue north to the United States.

President Trump would be undermining due process by preventing these prospective refugees from reaching the US-Mexico border. All they want to do is apply for asylum once they arrive. Considering that Trump believes these Central Americans are trying to undermine American values, he must be reminded that they’re simply trying to follow protocol and pursue a better life abroad. His blatant disregard for law-abiding immigrants seeking safety must be stopped once and for all.

Dear President Trump,

For the sake of human dignity and democratic values, Central American refugees traveling on the Pueblos Sin Fronteras caravan ought to be granted safe passage into the United States without fear of military intervention. Not only does your recent proposal of sending armed soldiers to patrol the U.S.-Mexico border show indifference to American tax dollars, but also moral shortcomings. Most of these passengers are Hondurans fleeing rampant state-sponsored aggression, not to mention many are women and children who have been on the road for more than 20 days. Nowadays, the country lacks laws, jobs, and most of all – justice.

Honduras had one of the highest homicide rates in the world before populist president Manuel Zelaya was ousted in 2009. It was even named the deadliest nation for environmentalists. Since the coup, high-ranking politicians and business moguls are suspected of facilitating the assassinations of more than 120 activists dedicated to protecting lands from corporate exploitation. Impunity reigns supreme and Hondurans are literally scared for their lives. What you’re lacking is compassion for innocent people who are exhausted, hungry, and desperate. After facing such adversity, the last thing they deserve is hostility from foreign military forces. Let them pass.

  1. Almost ALL of our families at one time came to AMERICA for a better life. Including TRUMP’s FAMILY. Those who do not abide by our laws need to be stopped but others only want a safe better place to live. Everyone deserves a better way of life.

  2. YES, most of us living here come from ancestors that immigrated here, but they came here LEGALLY!
If there is no effective way to limit who & how many people cross our borders, The U.S.A. will no longer BE a safe place to live for ANYBODY.
We’ve ALREADY got thousands of ultra violent gang & drug cartel members here because of open borders, & thousands of American citizens have been tortured, raped, and/or murdered by them.
If people coming here don’t respect our laws on immigration, what makes anyone think that they will respect any of our OTHER laws?
Thank GOD that we’ve finally got a president that for the most part does what is right for our country.
