Justice for 70 Horses Abandoned to Die in the Snow

Target: Viktor Yanev, Governor of Kyustendil Province, Bulgaria

Goal: Ensure that the man who allegedly left 70 horses to die on the snow-covered Osogovska Mountain is prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

Tragically, 70 horses were discovered dead or dying after allegedly being abandoned for months on a high mountain peak, in five feet of snow, without food or shelter. Their owner and the man allegedly responsible for this cruelty according to several sources is businessman Petar Pishtalov, from the town of Kyustendil, Bulgaria. He reportedly received government funding for the horses—140 euros per horse. When the animals were finally found, 40 of them were already dead. The rest were left fighting for their lives in an unimaginable state. They were reported to be buried in the snow, eyes pecked out by birds of prey, and unable to even chew the food brought by rescuers.

Pishtalov reportedly calls the place where the horses were found “The Valley of Death,” though he denies leaving the animals there and instead blames the people who were supposed to work for him. There is an Animal Protection Act in Bulgaria with a maximum penalty of three years in prison. However, the local courts have a history of being extremely lenient with these crimes, which only encourages this kind of brutality and neglect to continue. Sign below to demand justice for these horses and maximum punishment for the man allegedly responsible.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Governor Yanev,

The discovery of 70 horses on the snow-covered Osogovska Mountain, allegedly left for dead for months without food or shelter, is a terrible crime that must not go unpunished. Of these 70 horses, 40 were found already dead. The remaining animals were barely alive when they were rescued—they were allegedly found in five feet of snow with their eyes pecked out by birds, too weak to even chew the food rescuers brought for them.

Reportedly, their owner Petar Pishtalov was receiving government funding for these horses, and yet they were left to die brutally and painfully from starvation and cold. This is a clear violation of Bulgaria’s Animal Protection Act, and justice must be done. I urge you to ensure that the man allegedly responsible for such cruelty receives the maximum penalty of three years imprisonment for this inhumane crime.

Sincerely,

This is an unconscionable crime! This man should have the maximum penalty for each and every one of these poor horses. This would end up to be the rest of his life and he would absolutely deserve each and every day in a jail cell. What a miserable souless excuse for a human. And of course a non human like him will place the blame on someone else.

  2. Stephanie Geyser says:

If the owner (Petar Pishtalov) is a businessman from Kyustendil, Bulgaria, and if he gets government money for the horses, then he must be stealing from the government. I wonder what other corruption he is involved with, and how much profit he is making out of it? And is anyone in government being bribed by him to “look the other way”?

This rotten to the core BASTARD intentionally caused the TORTURE & DEATHS of those poor innocent horses!!! I so WISH there was an eye for an eye source of punishment for him…as in dragging his sorry ass to the snowy mountain tops, and dropping him head first to fend for his pathetic self!!! However, as it isn’t possible by law the MONSTERS sentence should at the very least mirror his ABHORRENT CRIMES of CRUELTY. HOPEFULLY the presiding judge will take this case seriously enough by hammering out a MAXIMUM sentence, and ensure that it’s enforced…as nothing less will do. He’s well deserving of receiving 3 years in prison per horse, whose lives he destroyed. He should have to pay back all funds he conned from the government, which were meant for the poor animals proper care. Care that I highly doubt they ever received. He’s also more deserving of a hefty fine, and should receive a lifetime BAN prohibiting him from ever owning, having custody or control of, or living with, or boarding of animals. Calling for ZERO TOLERANCE & severe JUSTICE in this unforgivable case.
    😡 💔 😭 💔 😤 💔 😡

  5. Peter Pishtalov is a sadistic psychopath of the worst sort. He should be charged with 70 counts of felony animal cruelty–and serve the maximum penalty of 3 years for EACH CRIME harming a poor suffering horse, horrific torture and death. In addition this freak should pay back all the money cheated/stolen from the government, a huge fine–and never allowed near another animal in ANY capacity! These gentle innocent animals experience physical and emotional pain like humans. The brutality and barbarism involved because of this monster is reprehensible!

    • Pat, agree with your comments but lament the fact this pos will get away with this. Corrupt govt, corrupt officials and uncivilised country. However we can’t sit by and watch cruelty happen. Hopefully our petitions will have some impact. Keep trying.
