Santorum: Stop Telling Mass Shooting Victims to “Learn CPR”

Target: Rick Santorum, Former Pennsylvania Senator

Goal: Demand Rick Santorum take back his unfeeling, selfish comments aimed at kids fighting for gun control.

Former senator Rick Santorum’s suggestion that kids learn CPR instead of demanding “phony gun control laws” has sparked public outrage. The insensitive comments were made in response to the March For Our Lives event, painting the protesters as weak and helpless and unwilling to take matters into their own hands: “They didn’t take action to say, ‘How do I, as an individual, deal with this problem? […] instead of going and protesting and saying, ‘Oh, someone else needs to pass a law to protect me.'”

These remarks were disgustingly crass and uncalled for. While children do need to learn independence and how to make a difference themselves, gun violence is not a matter over which they have direct control. They cannot predict when a madman will burst onto school property and attack them or their classmates. They cannot control who buys firearms. It is indeed the government’s job to protect them, as everyday citizens, from the possibility of such things. Additionally, Santorum showed off his ignorance of CPR, which is completely ineffective for victims of lethal ammunition.

Santorum has made a mockery of a serious issue and must not be allowed to get away with it. Sign this petition to demand this man publicly apologize and take back his insensitive remarks immediately.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Mr. Santorum,

Your suggestion that students learn CPR in lieu of demanding stronger gun control laws was uncalled for, crass, and insensitive. These students have been traumatized by the deaths of their classmates or the possibility that their school could be next, and they have no control over who buys a firearm or whether a madman will attack their school. Additionally, your comments display ignorance of how CPR works; it is for heart stoppage and loss of consciousness, completely ineffective for victims of lethal ammunition.

These students are bravely fighting for the only control they can gain over gun-toting maniacs. You had no right to insinuate they are weak or lazy for demanding the government make life safer not just for them, but for anyone else who could become a victim of gun violence. Make a public apology and take back your crass remarks immediately.

Sincerely,

[Your Name Here]

You really think CPR is a good idea for someone with a chest wound? Your stupidity alone could cause someones death. You might as well tell people to put communion under a persons tongue and start praying.
