Applaud Ban on Drowning Live Animals

Target: Bruce Tarr, Massachusetts Senator

Goal: Praise Massachusetts Senate for approving new law banning the drowning of animals and more firmly defining animal cruelty.

Drowning animals is no longer legal in Massachusetts, thanks to a bill that was approved by senator Bruce Tarr. Until recently, this act of horrific murder had been legal, leading to the deaths of hundreds of innocent pets or wild animals; this is due to the definition of animal cruelty being somewhat murky and animal abusers finding loopholes. This new law not only prohibits drowning, but sexual assault and the killing of the loser in animal fights.

This new law is extremely welcome in the wake of so many recent animal cruelty cases. Animals’ lives are just as valuable as human lives, yet for the longest time “animal cruelty” had been a blanket term only roughly defined compared to the many specific laws governing human rights and welfare. Animals deserve the same rights, and this law will finally grant them. Additionally, it is now mandatory for officials to report animal abuse immediately, and illegal for insurance companies to discriminate against homeowners or renters based on the breeds of dog they own.

Thanks to this new mandate, animals will be saved from torturous drowning deaths as well as other forms of horrific cruelty. Sign this petition to thank Senator Tarr for approving this bill to recognize the value of animals’ lives.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Senator Tarr,

Your approval of a new law outlawing the drowning of animals, as well as more clearly defining animal cruelty, is most welcome news. Too many animals have suffered painful and torturous drowning deaths over the years, many of them being strays or pets the owners found a nuisance. These deaths were linked to the exploitation of loopholes by animal abusers using the formerly murky definition to their advantage. Additionally, this new law will benefit the owners of pit bulls, as insurance companies will no longer be able to discriminate against them or their dogs.

Animals’ lives are just as valuable as those of humans, and the more the law acknowledges this, the closer we can be to stopping animal cruelty as a whole. Thank you for acknowledging this by helping to phase out the concept of “animal cruelty” as a generalized term.

Sincerely,

  1. Sounds like it’s time for a thorough review of the laws in all 50 states. We can hope that our politicians get their acts together, stop the childish bickering that is so prevalent in our elected officials, and get down to what really matters!

Such good news. Thank you for having compassion on these most helpless and defenseless of creatures. You have just made this world a better place to live, for all creatures, great and small.
