Punish Former Reptile Handler Who Allegedly Neglected Snakes

Target: Charles P. Strong, State’s Attorney for Washington County, Maryland

Goal: Demand that the former reptile handler who allegedly kept venomous snakes in neglectful and deplorable conditions receives the maximum penalty by law.

At least nine venomous snakes were allegedly neglected, leading to the death of at least two. The suspect reportedly took the snakes from a local wildlife preserve after he quit his job as a reptile handler. Demand justice for these poor snakes.

Investigators with the Maryland Natural Resources Police searched Brandon Joseph Boyles’ home after they received a tip that he had illegally obtained venomous snakes. Inside of the home, they reportedly found multiple snakes housed in filthy plastic tubs. Per investigators, the tubs did not have fresh water and the snakes could have easily escaped. Investigators found two dead cobras in the freezer, reports stated, and the surviving snakes weren’t properly cared for.

The snakes were taken to the Catoctin Zoo, where they will be cared for until the completion of the trial. Police charged Boyles with 13 counts of illegal possession of venomous snakes, nine counts of animal cruelty, and one count of reckless endangerment. Sign below to demand that Boyles receives the maximum penalty by law, if convicted.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear State’s Attorney Strong,

At least two snakes died and many more suffered when they were allegedly neglected and kept in deplorable conditions. The suspect reportedly obtained the snakes illegally from a local wildlife preserve. We demand justice for these poor snakes.

The Maryland Natural Resource Police charged Brandon Joseph Boyles with nine counts of animal cruelty after he allegedly kept snakes in deplorable conditions. Investigators searched Boyles’ home and reportedly found nine snakes living in filthy plastic tubs with no access to fresh water. The venomous snakes could have easily escaped from the tubs, investigators stated, and they all appeared to be poorly cared for. Two dead cobras were also reportedly found inside of the freezer. The surviving snakes were taken to the Catoctin Zoo to recover. Boyles is awaiting trial.

This neglect cannot go unpunished. We demand that you seek the maximum penalty in this case.

Sincerely,
