Release Bengal Tiger Cub to Sanctuary

Target: Lisa Peterson, Director, San Diego Zoo Safari Park

Goal: Send rescued and endangered Bengal tiger cub to live in freedom and safety at a sanctuary.

An endangered Bengal tiger cub was rescued after being illegally smuggled into the country, only to face a different kind of imprisonment. An 18-year-old California man was recently sentenced to prison for attempting to smuggle the cub, now named Moka, from Mexico. However, Moka may now be sentenced to a life of captivity as well, at the San Diego Zoo Safari Park.

Animals living in zoos often suffer from a condition referred to as “zoochosis,” which causes them to hurt themselves and exhibit other unusual behavior as a result of the stress of confinement. Tigers are extremely prone to this, because in captivity their natural habitats must be so severely limited or altered. Tigers in the wild live with minimal human contact and miles of space to roam, run, swim, or climb trees. Instead, Moka will be put on display for human entertainment and profit.

A sanctuary is a much more humane living option for a cub like Moka. His needs would be provided for—not only with food, protection, and veterinary care, but also the freedom to roam without being on public display. Sign below to demand that this tiger cub be released to a sanctuary.

Dear Director Peterson,

Moka the Bengal tiger cub deserves a life of freedom in which he is no longer made a spectacle by humans. This innocent endangered cub made news after being illegally smuggled into the U.S. The man responsible was sentenced to prison; Moka should not be faced with his own future of captivity.

A sanctuary is the safest and most humane home for this tiger cub. He will have protection, food, care, and the freedom to roam. This is Moka’s best chance at avoiding the stresses faced by zoo animals, living in confinement and put on display for profit—many of whom exhibit unusual and even self-harming or self-destructive behavior because of it. I urge you to give this tiger cub the best life possible for him, which means ensuring that the San Diego Zoo Safari Park releases him to a sanctuary.

  1. Please remove this poor tiger cub, they don’t belong in a zoo. Show some kindness for this poor animal.
A sanctuary is what is needed.
    Thank you

  2. Karen Mckay says:

Has this poor wee soul not suffered enough. DO THE RIGHT THING!!!

  3. Rosslyn Osborne says:

Oh heck! Get this poor animal out of the zoo and to an accredited big cat sanctuary, please. Moka has already suffered enough and really should not be subjected to the trauma of a cage for the rest of his life. Thank you

  4. lynn woods says:

put this beautiful baby in a sanctuary where he belongs I don’t know what made god put people in command all they do is kill and torture animals for the ungodly reasons they think up why doesn’t he do more to protect his beautiful creatures

    • Lynn, it’s difficult to argue that question, but he gave us free will, and expects us to do right with it, but also to help those who don’t know right from wrong see the error of the ways. Those who cannot see the right way, and show no compassion, or remorse whatsoever are likely led by the devil, without sounding too preachy, because I do believe in God, but am not overly religious, and at the same time I believe in evil sadly, that is why the good people can NEVER stop combating the evil in the world, it is our Godly duty, we owe it to the animals, and God expects nothing less from us!

  5. Pat Williams says:

Don’t punish this baby for the rest of his life because a stupid teenager smuggled him in. He’s young, get him to a certified re-habber.. let him live his life free! Away from Idiots that need to be heavily fined and never allowed other animals.

  6. Lianne Doherty says:

I love tigers! And while the only place to actually see one in person was a zoo, a sanctuary is a thoughtful, kinder and better place for this little guy. Thanks for doing the right thing!

  7. I would sign this petition if the tiger cub was released to Black Jaguar White Tiger aka BJWT. I would need a verifiable guarantee that BJWT would be this baby’s forever home. I pray that this scenario comes true.

  8. Jaime Perez says:

This sweet baby needs to be sent to a good sanctuary. He should be allowed to live out his life in peace and safety.

  9. Lisa Allred Lisa Allred says:

    Signed & shared❗️😑

  10. I expected a bit more intelligence from the zoo manager!

    Do the right thing!
    Stop being a block-head!
