Demand Penalties For Officers Who Break The Law

Target: Terence Monahan, NYPD Chief of Department

Goal: Penalize officers convicted of wrongdoing.

An internal report from the NYPD came out recently that found most officers who are guilty of breaking procedures are likely let off without any warning. Hundreds of officers who did everything from lying in reports while under oath to stealing from citizens kept their jobs and faced no real consequences for their actions.

This report shows a systematic pattern of covering up for law enforcement officials when they are clearly in the wrong. The NYPD has experienced controversy before for failing to discipline officers, but this report shows that the problem goes much deeper than a few bad apples. The NYPD intentionally hides police mistakes in an effort to keep their image clean. Sign the petition to demand that the NYPD hold officers convicted of wrongdoing accountable for their actions.

Dear Chief Terence Monahan,

It’s time we stop letting officers get away with corruption and scandal. There is evidence of systematic cover-ups of your officers and the citizens of New York, and the rest of this country, deserve better. Start punishing your officers when they do badly and fire the ones who break the rules, instead of giving them paid leave.

The American people absolutely deserve to feel protected and served by our law enforcement. There’s no reason they should fear them. Take the action now to enact police reform within the NYPD and be the change the rest of the country needs to see.
