Justice for Adopted Pet Pig Slaughtered for Food

Target: Lawrence MacAulay, Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food for Canada

Goal: Do not allow pet owners to slaughter or consume any companion animal, including potbelly pigs.

Animal rescuers from the British Columbia Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (BC SPCA) were shocked to discover that a rescued pet pig named Molly had been killed and eaten by her new adoptive family. While they had hoped that Molly, who had previously been seized during a cruelty investigation, would live out the rest of her days in peace inside a loving home, her new owners apparently had other ideas. Demand that animal welfare laws in Canada be changed to prevent future tragedies such as this.

As in many other countries, under Canadian law, once a rescue organization adopts out an animal, they lose all legal rights. Additionally, there are currently no laws in Canada to protect potbelly pigs from being consumed, even though they have not been bred for the purposes of being eaten and have been considered companion animals for decades.

More stringent laws are needed to help ensure that all companion animals be protected against the selfish desires of their owners. Sign the petition below and demand that Canada revise its animal welfare laws to make the slaughter and consumption of any companion animal, of any species, illegal.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Minister McAulay,

Rescuers from the British Columbia SPCA were heartbroken to learn than a potbelly pig named Molly had been killed and eaten by her new adoptive family. This animal had been rescued by the SPCA due to the suspicion that her previous owner had mistreated her, making this case particularly tragic. Potbelly pigs, such as Molly, are not intended to be raised or killed for their meat, and there was no reason she had to suffer this sad fate.

Currently, there is nothing in Canadian law to protect potbelly pigs from being killed or eaten, and very little to protect adopted animals in general once they leave the care of their rescuers. That is why we, the undersigned, demand that the current animal welfare laws be changed to make the consumption of all companion animals, regardless of their species, illegal.

Sincerely,

  1. leave it to Canada the laws in this country are so stupid but then look what we have running it this poor pig to be adopted then eaten after being abused probably won’t get any justice here they let murders walk in this country and pay terrorists 10.5 millions dollars for killing someone. great country we have here run by idiots

Poor animal after having suffered so much to be surrendered to such low level vicious retards. Such cruelty is incomprehensible to any normal human being, and it is shocking that such foul examples of humanity are living near to any one in a civilised society. The fear and pain that poor animal had to endure is hard to imagine. These wretches must be punished as the murderous felons they are.

    Really very sad… RIP Molly
Baha’i Writings ~ “To the blessed animals, however, the utmost kindness should be exercised: the more the better it will be. The physical sensibilities and instincts are common to animal and man.
Man is, however, negligent of this reality and imagines that sensibility is peculiar to mankind; therefore he practices cruelty to the animal….. Man is generally sinful and the animal is innocent. Educate the children in their infancy in such a way that they may become exceedingly kind and merciful to the animals…

Psalm 34:16 ~ The face of the LORD is against them that do evil, to cut off the remembrance of them from the earth. God created all the animals
Psalm 50:10 ~God cares for the animals. “Jesus said: ‘are not the five sparrows sold for two copper coins and not one of them is forgotten before God.

Pythagoras ~ “For as long as men massacre animals, they will kill each other. Indeed, he who sows the seed of murder and pain cannot reap joy and love.”

  4. Canada again! When will you get round to introducing some decent welfare laws and USE them? Who is running this lawless country? Whoever, needs replacing with someone with a brain and a sense of decency and responsibility. The stories coming out of this beautiful country bear more resemblance to the middle ages than a supposedly developed country in 2018.

  6. MAKE LAWS FOR MOLLY FOR JUSTICE FOR THE GREAT POTBELLY PIGS NOW.

  7. Shay Griepsma says:

    ASSHOLES!!!

  8. That pig should have never gone to the SPCA should have gone directly to a farm. Its pretty messed up they adopted a pig to be a pet then killed it and ate it. I wouldn’t be able to do it. However I understand the great beautys and horrors nature provides for us. Pigs are food weather you like it or not, people aren’t going to stop eating pigs beause of this. The laws we have in place serve and protect anaimals just fine, as long as that pig didn’t suffer more then it had to when the new owners had it, I would say they are legally in the right but morally wrong.
