Ban Cruel Bear Bile Farms in Korea

Target: Moon Jae-In, President of South Korea

Goal: Stop subjecting bears to excruciating pain and ban all Korean bear bile farms.

As part of its Winter Olympics promotions, South Korea has used a cuddly Asiatic black bear as its mascot. However, animal activists say there is a tragic irony in this choice, given the fact that as many as 1,000 Asiatic black bears are kept in the country on barbaric bear bile farms, where they are subjected to pain and torture on a daily basis. Action must be taken to put an end to this inhumane practice.

Bear bile farming involves keeping these large, majestic creatures in tiny metal cages that they can barely turn around in. Catheters are injected into the bears to extract the prized bile, which is believed to have medicinal properties that have not been backed by science. This entire process is extremely painful for the bears, who are not sedated and who must endure daily extractions for upwards of years.

While some countries have already banned bear farms, such as Vietnam, the practice remains legal in South Korea and many others. With the international spotlight shining on this East Asian nation, we must do what we can to demand change. Sign this petition to tell the President of South Korea that all bear bile farms must be shut down at once.

Dear President Jae-In,

There is a dark irony in your country’s choice to use the iconic Asiatic black bear as a mascot for the Winter Olympics, when it is believed that upwards of 1,000 of these majestic creatures are being kept in horrific conditions on bear bile farms. These bears are tortured daily as catheters painfully extract their bile to produce medical elixirs that have no proven health benefits. We demand that this practice be brought to an end immediately.

Asiatic black bears, like all animals, deserve to live freely and should not be caged. That is why we, the undersigned, urge you to ban bear bile farms across South Korea and to ensure that the surviving bears be transferred to compassionate, accredited sanctuaries.

  1. Stupid people with stupid beliefs! Stop torturing animals! Hate people!

  2. Korea is another Hell for animals.
The suffering of animals to hold up superstitious beliefs is a crime! Punishment will come! May God show no Mercy!

  3. Asia is just a cesspool for these kind of “activities”. I know there are people there who are trying to make changes for all the tortured animals in their country, and I applaud them. It is too bad that this kind of cruelty is acceptable to so many.

  4. Agree with Donna L. above I hate people also — animals are so far superior and compassionate.

  5. Selena Brooks Selena Brooks says:

Do these people do anything else besides torturing animals? Truly disgusting!

  6. This is evil beyond words!!! This “medicine” will help no one!!! Stop the torture of these innocent animals!!! Compassion for all living beings!!!

  7. Agree all comments these countries bunch of cruel C**TS do it to them see how they feel whats wrong with laws F**King useless

  8. No, this is not right to treat animals this way. I have signed the petition, but it makes me think about how we Americans also treat our animals. We are kidding ourselves if we don’t realize what goes on in most of our industrial farms. Animals that are intelligent and also feel physical and mental pain are stuffed into tiny cages, crates and buildings with no room to turn. They don’t see the outside or have a chance to interact with their fellow creatures. We need to not only fight for what’s right in other countries but also to fight for animals’ rights in ours.

  9. Richard Hofman Richard Hofman says:

What company like the Samsung would have said about to be set up in a country where eating cats and dogs is normal?…
And also torturing bears for idiotic reasons so popular…!!!!

  10. Signed & shared ❗️😠
