End Cruel Factory Farming and Force-Feeding of Ducks and Geese for Popular Culinary Dish

Target: Michael Gove, Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs

Goal: Include a ban on foie gras and other cruel factory farming practices as part of Britain’s proposed new animal welfare laws.

Foie gras is a popular delicacy that is the result of unseen horror and brutality. To produce the dish made from fattened goose or duck liver, live birds must be force-fed unnatural amounts of grain several times a day. This extreme example of cruel factory farming must be brought to an end as part of the United Kingdom’s new proposed animal welfare laws.

The birds that are raised for foie gras are subjected to a miserable, short existence consisting of confinement, fear and violent force-feeding. Many birds end up choking on their own vomit as grain is poured down pipes or as funnels are shoved down their throats. Those that survive often end up suffering from a variety of health-related issues, including lesions on their feet and fungal infections, before their eventual slaughter.

The inhumane practice of raising birds for foie gras, as well as other cruel factory farming processes, must be brought to an end. Sign this petition to demand that the United Kingdom enact a ban on foie gras as part of its proposed animal welfare laws.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Secretary Gove,

There are few farming practices that are more cruel or horrific than that of raising ducks and geese for foie gras. In order to produce the fatty livers that are the trademark of this dish, these birds are force-fed multiple times a day, sometimes to the point of choking on their own vomit. There is no excuse for this extremely abusive practice to continue in the United Kingdom or anywhere else.

With the sweeping new animal welfare laws currently being proposed, there is a unique opportunity to ban this practice and other cruel factory farming procedures. That is why we, the undersigned, urge you to support a complete ban on foie gras throughout the U.K. as a first step toward the end of inhumane factory farming.

Sincerely,

This is a horrible way to satiate ones palate! The physical agony these poor geese must endure is heart breaking. Do the individuals have any empathy for these creatures while executing this barbaric act? It is disturbing to know these geese are force-fed several times a day with large tubes shoveled into and down their throats.
Does this not strike a chord with anyone ingesting this so called delicacy?

  2. Disgusting humans! Those who do it and those who eat it! Sick!

  3. It’s just plain cruel and barbaric and it needs to stop now.
Where are people’s compassion that they allow this and think that their taste buds are more important than cruelty to animals!

  4. You need to do something about this,Mr. Gove! Have you seen labour’s new policy on animal welfare? It’s just what people want! You will be losing votes here. I will certainly leave you and I’ve never gone over to labour before!!

  5. Life is Life… Whether it be a human, a duck, goose, dog, rhino, etc,… What is wrong with people’s brains, that they are not able to comprehend the value of life and the respect, thereof?!!! This is an EVIL PRACTICE! People that eat meat and dairy should really begin to do some research on the treatment and abuse that is involved with the animals that you eat. It is completely heartbreaking! Rather than overlooking the videos or articles… Just watch or read 1 or 2… or even a few. This is only 1 example of what goes on! It is very concerning that our society as a whole is filled with heartless and evil people who are more than willing to disrespect life by torturing and abusing innocent and defenseless animals for their own gain, their own pleasure?!!! The videos tell all!!! They show the unnecessary abuse that is added to the terror, suffering and death that the animals are already experiencing. This is just one more sad, unnecessary and sadistic practice that that is being forced upon innocent and defenseless animals! PLEASE STOP THIS PRACTICE!!! PLEASE STOP SUPPORTING THIS PRACTICE!!!

This is a horrible practice and is not necessary to feed people who don’t care what the animal has to go through so that they can feed on their misery. Please stop and ban this in our country.

  7. This needs to be banned. Yes, the individuals who eat it are at risk. This “culinary” food is laced with tumors, ulcerative abrasions and parasites because the poor animal is mistreated, sick and unhealthy. How is that a delicious dish? Stop the suffering of these poor animals and ban this awful practice.

Signed and forwarded– again to all my animal lover friends.

  8. What the he’ll is wrong with the human race! All we do is Torture and kill kill kill!

  10. Linda Cummings says:

Only a soulless heartless barbarian could do this, and support this by buying this food. It frightens me that there are so many people capable of doing this to feeling, suffering, helpless animals.

  11. BE HUMANE TO THESE ANIMALS NOW.

  12. Stop buying this vile product!!!! May the suffering that the cretins that do this for a living be visited upon them and thier families threefold. So mote it be!!!!
